Tonight, I have the great pleasure to introduce our very first guest blog, written by none other than Jemma Supporter number one Franciska Friede.

Franciska plays the role of "Sophie" on the German telenovela Hand aufs Herz, that we all have grown to love so much.

When we asked her if she would guest blog for us, a while back, she didn't hesitate for a second, just as she has always been not only helpful, but ever friendly and forthcoming to all of the Jemma and Hand aufs Herz fandoms.

A real Lessis(female for Lesbro?), so to speak.

You'll find out more about her on her homepage,  visit her on her Facebook,or follow her on Twitter: @franciskafriede

Franciska also entertains her own blog, in English!

We're ever so grateful, Franci, you're a rockstar, and all of us here at JI have become great FF fans and love you very much! Thanks for everything!

On Sophie and Sophie on Drugs
On Sophie and Sophie on Drugs

Hey guys.

Thank you for your support. It is amazing to see how much influence this show has. It's so great to see that people from all over the world are following this show, the love story, the drug story and the whole little Hand aufs Herz universe. I try to give you a little insight on my drug story with Sophie. I hope you find it interesting. I don't have a clue how to write it but I hope you have a little fantasy to take this writing into your imagination.

So, I got to know about this story as I did about all of the others:through reading the script. At the beginning I was a little clueless and had bit of a stomach ache at the thought:How does one act anything like that? Can I even do that? How does one get information about this topic? Well, one question after another.

First of all, I turned on the computer and wanted to start googling but then:Well, it seemed like the authors hadn't agreed yet on what kind of drugs poor Sophie would be taking. And since every drug has different effects, that had to get cleared up first before I could start researching the impact.

Therefore, the next day, I talked these scenes over with my director first of all.. We agreed on Sophie taking coke as well as pills, pills that would be having a stimulating effect. Following that,I searched the web and let me tell you:there are bunches of pages where people have published very terrible reports of their experiences.  But it helped me.

After the research, the question remained:And now? How will I manage to get myself into this drunk state of highness, that amplifies all emotions and let's everything appear more colorful and more extreme than it really is?

In acting, there are different schools in how to approach a scene or a role. Either one has to have experienced all of it, or you have to look for a “replacement feeling”, that is very similar to the one that is to be acted. That way it can be staged without actually having to, for example, take drugs yourself.

Well, I have found a part of this feeling in the state one is in just before falling asleep. Somehow, everything is a little blurry and clear at the same time, because you're already halfway in another world.

During the shoot, it furthermore helped that I got black contact lenses from our super great make up department. Since I'm wearing contact lenses myself and these black samples had no visual activity, I had a completely different view on things in the first place..a blurry one.:)

What helped me the most, though, was this thought: Simply exaggerate everything, get into it and work it up. I tried to completely zone out everything around me and not let anything get to me.

Doing that, it was the first time, that I noticed that it is a real drawback for scenes like these to be shooting a series and not a movie.

We're so extremely pressured by time all the time, that it is hard to be taking enough time for scenes such as these,If you're having this extreme time pressure, and everyone around you is constantly checking their watches and exuding pressure it is very hard to get into emotional scenes.

I can't tell if that will be easier, when one has been in the job longer, but I do assume it. But I am still at the very beginning and am still going to learn that.;-)

Of course, I don't want to blame everything on the lack of time, but I do think, that this sort of thing is easier on one during the shoot of a movie.

Which goes to show again, that all of us have simply done an amazing job. Yes.

Since I've never done anything like this before, and don't know what one usually writes,I'd just leave it like this if that's ok:)

Also.

Sophie down and out

Ciao ragazzi.

Grazie per il vostro sostegno. E' meraviglioso vedere quanta influenza abbia questo show.

Riuscirò a farlo?

Oh, wow, this is awesome! Franciska, you are an excellent druggie, and I've been feeling awful for Sophie in these last few episodes. I can't wait to see how your storyline turns out.

Thank your very much for doing this Franciska. It is really interessting to read about how you try to fit with the emotions and feelings of a drug addict. And you really did a great job of it :-)

Hey Francisca, thanks for sharing this with us! I was quite impressed how realistic and intense this whole drug story turned out - and how well it was portrayed by you and Lucy! I can imagine that it isn't easy to act something like that, so it was very intersting to read how you prepared yourself, for example thinking of this 'before falling asleep - state' - great thought!

You really did an excellent job - wow! Thank you.

"Which goes to show again, that all of us have simply done an amazing job. Yes" And you have really just done that with your portrayal of Sophie, Franciska. Thanks for that and also thank you very much for this blog; it's very interesting to read how you approached the whole drug story.

;) danke!

hey francsica, well written and well played! ... since I'm not on facebook and so on... at this point a general compliment to you.... I think it's quite a bit more difficult to play a badgirl/boy or as you did a difficult, unstable character! To distance oneself emotionally from the role and to deal with it, that some people might not be able to distinguish role and reality and maybe are mad at your character or at you. Kudos!!!! Also to everyone else, who have played so greatly under this big pressure... every role was important and you all have always managed it, to let me see something loveable and kind in each role/character... even in the "really" badboys/girls! ;) thanks!

    Hi Franciska,
Thank you for giving us the insight to your character. I think you have done a fantastic job in portraying Sophine-high-on-drugs. It's always a great challenge to act out something that is the total opposite to your real self and I think you have done it tremendously well. I think you write very well by the way. Looking forward to the upcoming episodes and your blog entries.

    Hugs from London

First off, thanks so much for doing this Franciska! Hello from Canada :) It was interesting to read the thought process that takes place behind scenes and how you interpret the storyline. I gotta say, that scene where Jenny waits outside the club until the next morning and when Sophie finally comes out she's high out of her mind. It was really well done, there was this really childlike vulnerability that Sophie was exuding that just made me feel sad for her and want to protect her.

Anyways, love the show, still in denial that it will be ending soon and the best of luck with future projects!
