Episode 20

Translated by hephylax edited by ami

Bea: You do love Miriam, don’t you?

Piet: Yes, of course I do..

Bea: Then you have to work for it.

Lara: I just wish sometimes that I had a sister whom you could take care of and you could vent your anger on.

Piet: Well, the two of us never had it easy…with Lara and stuff. But we managed…together.

Miriam: Yes, we did.

Piet: And I would like for it to be like that again, in the future.

Miriam: That’s what I want, too!

Piet: And that’s why I thought of something that will bring us closer together again.

Miriam: Yes?

Piet: We should have another child.

(WHUT?)

Intro

[The Vogel home]

Miriam: That’s your idea of a solution to our problems? Another child?

Piet: Well, I know back then, with Lara, it wasn’t easy but…but a lot of things have changed.

Miriam: Oh yeah? What exactly has changed!?

Piet: Well, we have a house, we have enough space, I’m earning enough money and…and this time around, we would be…prepared.

Miriam: You can’t be serious?!

Piet: But why not? Back then, we managed, together, and this will bring us back  together again.

Miriam: Piet, if a child is the only thing keeping us together…then we are really having a problem.

[Pestalozzi, teachers’ lounge]

Michael: At that time I’m having the counselling session with Ben Bergmann.

Götting: Well then, it will have to be dropped for once. The foreign language classes do have priority.

Michael: I would prefer it if another colleague could take over the eleventh grade.(Ben and I..we get to spend so little time together as it is..)

Götting: Frau Vogel, you’re coming right on cue. You have such a good standing with our problem students, don’t you?

Bea: What’s this about?

Götting: Very simple. Herr Heisig is going to take over the eleventh grade English class and you are going to take over Ben Bergmann with “moral conduct of life” (Ha! Win!)

Bea: That’s not possible. (You don’t say?!)

Götting: Because?

Bea: I still have to prepare the test for the tenth grade.

Götting: Dear colleague. I surely don’t have to tell you that you are supposed to use your free periods for that. You do have one right now, don’t you? Well, then everything is clear. Heisig – English, Vogel – Psycho-Session. Have a nice day.

Michael: Well… Is everything alright?

Bea: Of course.

[Pestalozzi, foyer]

Luzi comes down the stairs and sees Timo and Sophie hugging. She’s not happy and walks on. A few seconds, the same with Caro, only she then finds Ben to distract her.

Caro: Do you need a new cell phone, or something?

Ben: Why?

Caro: Because you obviously didn’t get my text yesterday.

Ben: I did. But it was already late.

Caro: Well, it’s early now.

Ben: I already…have … some other plans. Sorry.

He looks around searching for an escape route when he, too, sees Timo and Sophie.

Ben: I've heard that the sheep has left the herd.

Caro: Not for long.

Ben: Always good to see how you worry about your friends.

[Pestalozzi, consultation room]

Ben: Don’t tell me that you are doing the session with me, today.

Bea: Yes. I’m substituting for Mr. Heisig.

Ben: That’s what I call dedication.

Bea: I'll have to disappoint you there. It wasn’t my idea. You’ll have to thank Mr. Götting for that.

Ben: I will. So, what are we going to do now? We have an entire hour to ourselves.

Bea: I suggest that you tell me what you talked to Mr. Heisig about last time.

Ben: Don’t you think this is a little ridiculous?

Bea: No. It’s ridiculous that you still haven’t gotten that I’m your teacher and that you were given these counselling sessions as a condition for being allowed to remain at this school. And in your interest, I’d like to begin now.(Word.)

Ben: So, you want to know what I talked about with Heisig, last time?

Bea: Yep.

Ben: I’ve told him what a shitty feeling it is to be unhappily in love with your own teacher.(Ben confessed his love to Michael? And what happened then??)

Bea: Ben, that’s not funny. (That’s true. If it was at least funny, translating these inane dialogues wouldn’t be so painful./I feel your pain, Heph..My head keeps sending them to Gaylozzi, solely to keep myself entertained..look, a rainbow colored unicorn just flew by the window..)

Ben: You’re completely right. It’s not funny.

[The Vogel home]

Miriam is ironing. Lara comes in, throws herself on the couch with a pout and turns on the TV. Piet puts his journal down and shuts the TV off.

Lara: What?

Piet: Could you maybe ask if running the TV is bothering people?

Lara: Is it bothering anyone? Nobody. Good.

She turns the TV on again. Piet shuts the TV off.

Lara: What the heck!?

Piet: It’s bothering me, is all.

Lara: You aren’t asking anyone either when you want to watch TV.

Piet: It’s not about that.

Lara: What is it about then?

Piet: Well, it’s about us still being a family. You know, it can’t work like this. You could ask your mother if you can help her sometimes. You can tell me why you’re running around with that look on your face the whole day...

Lara: You were only reading the newspaper until just now too.

Piet: Yes. But now it’s closed and we can talk for once.

Lara: But I don’t feel like talking. And you two aren’t talking, either. You’re only arguing. And if you want to know, I’ve gotten thrown out of the volleyball team this morning. And it’s all your fault.

[Pestalozzi, consultation room]

Bea: Things can’t go on like this. (And yet, we still have more than 200 episodes of this to wade through. Something is rotten in the school of Pestalozzi/Just wait til we're back in Michael/Bea Land, and you'll long for these convos..ok,maybe not)

Ben: And again, we’re of the same mind.

Bea: You can’t tell me that you’re in love with me over and over again (Oh yes, he can and he will..repetitio est mater studiorum..)

Ben: What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to lie?

Bea: No! I want you to stop.(Yes!)

Ben: Okay. If you answer me one question and…you have to be completely honest. (Dramatic pause) What feelings do you have for me? What? I’m allowed to ask that question, or am I not?

Bea: Why do you want to know?

Ben: Inadmissible counter question.

Bea: I think you’re nice.

Ben: You are cruel.

Bea: Okay. Likable.

Ben: Likable?

Bea: Just like the other students.

Ben: Did you sleep with them as well?

Bea: Okay, that’s enough. (She starts to pack her things.)

Ben: Stop. I’m sorry, okay? Sorry. Isn’t it a fucking coincidence that we both end up at this school at the same time? After such a night?

Bea: You and I…that’s not possible. You have to accept that.

Ben: So…no intense eye-contact any more…no long talks and no incidental touching.

Bea: No declarations of love. No demands. And no subtle flirt attacks. (The last one must be preventive because there was never anything subtle about Ben’s attempts at flirting… Which isn’t really his fault. Jenny hasn’t been given the chance yet to teach her “Subtle Flirting 101” course./hasn't Ben been stalking the STAG staring at Bea as well?I sense a Hartmann influence here..)

Ben: Student and teacher only.

Bea: Yes.

Ben: Okay. If that’s what you really want… (I don’t care, it’s what I really want. It would be heaven. I would really like to retire my Bean dialogue repertoire: We can’t. I’m your teacher. You’re my student. It’s not going to work. I love you and I know you love me. ) I promise.

(If there really was a God and she would in fact strike people down for not telling the truth, the Helena-Stefan plan to demolish the Pestalozzi wouldn’t have been necessary. The entire Pestalozzi would only be rubble after this massive untruth.)

Bea: Thanks.

Ben: Should we end this for today?

Bea: Under normal circumstances, that would be my line.

[Pestalozzi, foyer]

Alexandra: Caro? I didn’t realize that you took over my job. It seems that you are running the volleyball team, now. Or why did you throw our best setter out of the team?

Caro: Sophie left voluntarily, okay? And to be honest, I can do without her, no problem.

Alexandra: Wrong! We are playing against the top team from the schools of Düsseldorf, tomorrow. And I intend to walk off the court with a victory that won’t leave any doubt about which team in North Rhine-Westphalia is the best.

Caro: Sure. But I don’t need Sophie for that.

Alexandra: In case you have forgotten, beach volleyball is played in a team. I don’t give a damn about what happened between the two of you. You are going to clear that up.

(Ah, the troubles coaches face in the female volleyball, basketball, softball and soccerteams around the world..overcoming dyke drama for success..)

[Pestalozzi, students’ lounge]

Luzi is sitting on the sofa when Timo shows up.

Timo: So, here I am.

Luzi: What kind of act was that, earlier?

Timo: You were there, weren’t you?

Luzi: Yes, and what does it mean?

Timo: Well, Sophie and I are together again.

Luzi: And what does Caro have to say about that?

Timo: Who cares!? I mean, Sophie took a firm stand. She couldn’t have made it any clearer than kissing me in front of everyone. It seems that you were wrong about her.

Luzi: Why me?!

Timo: Well, you were the one who always said that she would never stand by me.

Luzi: First of all, you couldn’t have predicted it from her behavior up until now, and second of all, you yourself didn’t believe that either.

Timo: Okay, so we both of us were wrong.

Sophie comes up.

Sophie: Can I join you?

Timo: Of course. I’m glad you came over.

Luzi: Actually, I wanted to talk to Timo about the STAG.

Sophie: Don’t mind me.

Timo: Is that chocolate?

Sophie: Do you want to try some?

Timo: Sure. Hmm.

Sophie: You’ve still got a little something there…

They start kissing. Luzi looks understandably miffed.

[Pestalozzi, teachers’ corridor]

Bea: I think, we made some good progress today.

Ben: Yes. I’ve realized some things. See you later. (Off of Bea’s shocked look) Math?

Bea: Oh, yes, of course.

[Pestalozzi, school yard]

Caro (to a group of students]: Have you noticed how Theresa behaves when he enters the class room in the mornings? She isn’t able to get out one normal sentence. She gets such…(Ha!Funny how Caro didn't catch on with Emma and Jenny:-D)

Lara walks by and accidentally bumps into Caro.

Caro: Hey, can’t you be more careful!? (She realizes that it’s Lara) Oh, you can’t even pass on a ball, can you?

Laughter all around.

Students: See you later, okay. Bye.

[Flashback]

[Volleyball court]

Caro spikes the ball so that it hits Lara full on.

Lara: Ow.

Sophie: Dude, that was totally unfair.

Caro: I was only showing you where it is that you belong.

Alexandra: I’m sorry. You aren’t ready to play in the A team, yet. Maybe next year.

Piet: You could ask your mother if you can help her sometimes. You can tell me why you’re running around the whole day with that look on your face…

Lara: But I don’t feel like talking. And you two aren’t talking, either. You’re only arguing. And if you want to know, I’ve got thrown out of the volleyball team this morning. And it’s all your fault.

[/Flashback]

Frau Jäger comes up. She’s holding a plant, by the way.

Frau Jäger: Lara, how are you? Are your classes over for today?

Lara: Now don’t you baby me as well.

Frau Jäger: Excuse me?

Lara: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it personally.

Frau Jäger: Are you alright?

Lara: Yes, of course. Except for having two left hands.

Frau Jäger: What happened?

Lara: Nothing.

Frau Jäger: Do you want for me to call your parents?

Lara: That’s the last thing I need right now.

[Pestalozzi, hallway]

Papa Piet on a mission.

Piet: Alexandra! Hey. I have to talk to you about the volleyball team.

Alexandra: If you want tickets for the game, they’re 5 Euros, pre-sale.

Piet: It’s about Lara.

Alexandra: Students get a discount.

Piet: Why did she get thrown out of the team?

Alexandra: She didn’t get thrown off the team…because she wasn't even in it, yet.

Piet: But…

Alexandra: She did a trial practice but that was so bad that she just didn’t make the A team.(Tadadadaaam, tada daaam..The A-Team!!..sorry..) If your daughter is looking for a leisure time  activity, why don’t you send her to your sister's?

Piet: That’s what her mother told me to do, too.

Alexandra: Well, then everything’s clear.

Piet: No. Nothing’s clear. Lara wants to play volleyball. She’s not interested in anything else and if there were posters of the team and this Caro, her whole room would be full of them. And I don’t know how you see it but I think that everybody deserves a second chance. I know that you have hated Bea since high school and I’m not sure if it was such a good idea for her to come back but Lara doesn’t have anything to do with that. So please give her another chance.

Alexandra sees Bea over Piet’s shoulder and starts to smile.

Alexandra: I’ll think about it.

Piet: Thanks.

Bea: What was that all about?

Piet: Pouring oil on troubled water. Lara wants to join the volleyball team.

Bea: You’re letting Lara join Alexandra’s team?

Piet: It doesn’t matter who is coaching her. And if Alexandra is the coach then she is the coach. And honestly, if it wasn’t for you, she would have it a lot easier here.

Bea: Thank you so much! Anything else?

Piet: Yes. If you plan to keep meddling in my marriage then…just don’t.

[Pestalozzi, students’ lounge]

Timo and Sophie are still making out while Luzi is eating Timo’s muffin.  Timo comes up for air and starts reaching for the muffin.(Wow, the pictures in my head..)

Timo: Hey, that was the last blueberry one.

Sophie: Sorry. I didn’t have anything better to do with my mouth just now.(O_O)

Timo: Never mind. I’ll take chocolate. Be right back.

He leaves on his hunting and gathering mission, leaving Sophie and Luzi alone with each other. Awkward silence and glances ensue.

Sophie: Have you already heard that Vogel and Heisig are an item?

Luzi: Mhm.

Silence.

Luzi: So, how are things with the volleyball team?

Sophie: Quite alright... And with the music club?

Luzi: Well, great.

Timo comes back. The girls breathe a sigh of relief.

Timo: You know what I think is great? That now that everything’s been resolved you two get along as well.

[Pestalozzi, class room]

Bea: The equation is universally valid. That means the solution set results in a set of real numbers: R. Does anybody still have questions about this? – Okay.

Ben raises his hand.

Bea: Ben.

Ben: Äh, I wanted to ask if that applies to all of the real or to all of the rational numbers as well.

Bea: Real numbers are a superordinate set which means every rational number is a real number. But not the other way around. Which means…

Ben: …äh…that it applies to all real numbers and all rational numbers?

Bea: Exactly. Alright. Then please work on the tasks 1 – 7 on page 77.

The bell rings twenty seconds later, interrupting Bea staring at Ben.

Bea: Alright, the rest is your homework. I’m going to collect it next time.

The students are getting up to leave.

Ben (to Bea): Bye.

Bea: Till tomorrow.

(Wow, Heph, respect!I hate translating math more than Frank Peters!))

[The Vogel home]

Miriam: Where are you coming from?

Piet: I went to the school. I talked to Alexandra regarding Lara. I got her to give Lara a second chance.

Miriam: Does she even want that?

Piet: Well, of course... I mean, I’m certain. You know how important it is to her.

Miriam: Yes, but did you talk to Lara about it, beforehand?

Piet: What did I do wrong again, now?

Miriam: Nothing. But you do know Lara. You know how sensitive she is. I’m just not sure if she would want you to talk to her teacher for her.

Piet: Well great. No matter what you do, it’s wrong.

Miriam: No, I think what you are doing for Lara is great. But maybe, all of us should have talked about it beforehand.

Piet: Well, talking about it hasn’t been that easy lately. You know, I really want to do everything right but sometimes…I just don’t know what you expect from me.

They hug and start kissing.

Piet: Let’s do it.

Miriam: What do you mean?

Piet: You know what I mean. Let nature run its course.

Miriam:This topic again!? You can’t just make a second child and hope that that’s going to resolve all marital problems.

Piet: Well, it didn’t feel like marital problems just now.

Miriam: You…really don’t … get anything!

(Wow, Piet needs one of those mail in courses on relationships,too..)

[Music: KT Tunstall - "Other Side of the World"]

[Chulos]

Miriam goes to Chulos where Sebastian hands her a drink.

[Vogel garage]

Piet is working in his garage.

[Outside of the Beschenko home]

Timo: Thanks again.

Luzi: Thanks? Thanks for what?

Timo: Well, that you played nice earlier. I know that you aren’t that fond of Sophie.

Luzi: It’s okay.

Timo: But now everything is going to be different. Sophie changed. And she’s through with Caro.

Luzi: Yes. That may be.

Timo: And you won’t have to listen to my whining, anymore.

Luzi: I really have to go inside now.

Timo: Who knows, maybe you will even become friends one of these days.

Luzi gives Timo a look.

Timo: Yes. I mean, now that she’s off the volleyball team, she doesn’t have that many left.

Luzi: Well, that was foreseeable.

Timo: Yeah…that’s why I’ve been thinking of bringing her with me to the Music AG, tomorrow.

Luzi (totally aghast): Sophie???

Timo: Well, I mean, we could use any kind of support, right? Just imagine: The three of us rocking the Music AG. How cool would that be?

Luzi: Super.

(Perfect answer:-D

[Pestalozzi, auditorium]

Bea: Ben!

Ben: Frau Vogel.

Bea: What are you still doing here?

Ben: I’ve forgotten my bag, once again. Well then…have a nice evening.

Bea: Äh, Ben? - I’m glad we found a way to deal normally with each other.

Long looks. (Nonononononono)

Bea: May I ask you something?

Ben: Sure.

Bea: You said earlier that you’ve realized something. What did you mean by that?

Ben: I’ve realized that I didn’t have to keep asking about your feelings for me. I know, now. I know that you love me.

And Bea starts kissing him. (Yes, their convictions didn’t even last one episode. So much for “Moral conduct of life”, hm?)//WHUT???O_O, I don't get to see these episodes..I only edit them..and I did not see that coming..WTH?Thanks for braving it Heph!)
