(Previously on Hand aufs Herz)

[Pestalozzi, schoolyard]

Luzi: Well, if you want to come to an agreement the others should be present.

Götting: What I have to say concerns you alone. Contrary to the others you are truly talented. You’ve proven your fighting spirit. From your questionnaire I know that after completing your high-school diploma you want to attend the Paul McCartney’s Music College in Liverpool.

Luzi: So?

Götting: To make this dream reality you’re lacking two things: money and good connections.

Luzi: And what does that have to do with the strike?

Götting: Make sure that it ends - then you can go to Liverpool.

[Intro]

[Pestalozzi, schoolyard]

Luzi: You want me to betray my friends?

Götting: No! To bring them to their senses

Luzi: That’s a matter of opinion! Anyway, I’m not corrupt.

Götting: Don’t gamble with your future with romantic pipe dreams.

Luzi: I will have a future without your connections, Herr Götting! I’ve done fine until now.

Götting: Is that so?

Luzi: Yes.

Götting: Why do you want to drown in mediocrity, Luzi? You’re talented. You really want to throw away your talents? Think about it!

Luzi: I don’t have to. I will not be a scab for you.

Götting: The offer stands.

[Bergmann villa]

Caro: You wouldn’t do that!

Sophie: 50.000 Euros! And I’m really curious to see how Ben will react when he finds out that the child was not his, but his father’s. And that you’ve aborted it. I’m serious about that! I need the money! I really have no choice!

Caro: Sure. You have. Because I know what’s going on. Let’s sum it up.

First you find out that your father had an affair with Franziska Lohmann. Then you fly to Australia to find this postcard guy, the ex - Jens. He knows what happened. and now you suddenly show up and have accused your beloved Bea Vogel of murder. Why? Even if she was, but she isn’t. Why did you fight with your mother, and now can’t say one one to her? I tell you why: Because she, or your father, or both had something to do with the murder, and you want to protect them.

Sophie: Are you Miss Marple, or what?

(Note from your editor: For anyone who doesn’t know, ‘Miss Marple’ is a character appearing in many of Agatha Christie’s cime novels, as well a TV series produced by the BBC. She’s an amateur detective, and the BBC has done a rather marvelous job in their productions… check it out if you like that sort of thing, and (OF COURSE) read the books!!!! :D )

Caro: Maybe. Anyway, I’m sure that the police will be interested in my theory. I should probably go there now.

[Police department]

Inspector: And then you pushed Franziska Lohmann into the pit.

Bea: No. She stumbled.

Inspector: Well, whatever. She lay there, bleeding, defenceless…and sure, you were angry…

Bea: No, I was frightened. But I’ve told you all that already.

Inspector: Well, you also told us that you hadn’t had an affair with your student.

Bea: Yes, and that was a mistake.

Inspector: Yes, it was.

Bea: I didn’t think that one thing had to do with the other.

Inspector: Just leave that assessment to us. Where is Jens Mirbach?

Bea: I don’t know. I wish I knew. He could tell you that I had nothing to do with Franziska’s death.

Inspector: But who was it then?

Bea: I don’t know!

Inspector: But you met him.

Bea: Once, briefly.

Inspector: Ah, and you didn’t talk about it?

Bea: We didn’t get to it.

Inspector: Yeah, sure! There were so many more important things to talk about. Do you understand why I find it dificult to belive you? Well ok, we’ll…we’ll end this here. Then you can quietly think about all of this again. Oh, by the way, your call has been approved.

The inspector sets up a phone for Bea and leaves the room.

Bea immediately reaches for the phone, to talk to…the answering machine

“This is Michael Heisig. Unfortunately I can’t answer your call. If you want to leave a message, I will call back.”

“Hi Michael. It’s me. Bea.”

[Pestalozzi]

After a short glance at the school yard we see Luzi walking to Timo.

Timo: Hey! Kissing Luzi. And? What did Götting want?

Luzi: Manipulation, what else.

Timo: And that means?

Luzi: He has changed his tactics. Now it’s a carrot instead of a stick.

Timo: Okay. And that means…?

Luzi: Bla-bla, hot air. It’s not worth talking about.

Timo: Okay.

Luzi: And here?

Timo: Well…sunny with cloudly intervals.

Ha, if he would know…upstairs the weather looks very promising!

Just let’s hope that the mood doesn’t change suddenly.

Well, Timo, it wouldn’t…if you won’t enter the auditorium in episode 132…but rough ways lead to the highest mountains! Of books, for example ;-)

Luzi: Well then let’s see what we can do about that.

[Bergmann villa]

Sophie: My parents have nothing to do with all of that stuff!

Caro: And why are you get so upset then? Then your mother has nothing to fear….

Sophie: Gosh! Because if you talk to the the police there will be an investigation. And gossip.

Caro: Gossip?

Sophie: Then go to the police and tell your lies! Go! But then I will go to Ben. You’re usually so smart and see through everything. You should understand that I have nothing to lose, unlike you. The villa, the luxury, Ben. You will lose it all, if I go to him and tell him the truth. If I were you, I would think twice about what you do.

Sophie rushes out.

Stefan: Good bye. He comes in. Is everything okay?

Caro: No! We have a problem.

[Vogel house]

Michael: I know you’re mad at me right now, but…Piet, I need your help. I need all of the information on this Jens Mirbach. Everything that you know, every detail, where this guy is staying…

Piet: Well, as this card came from Australia, Bea and I have really tried everything to find him.

Michael: Yes, The police also say that they have tried everything, but it’s done nothing. and I…I don’t want to sit down and be idle. Wait till something happens. What do you know about this guy? Do you have any idea what he looks like?

Piet: Yes, just….we have some photos here. Yes. That’s it. Here. If I get ahold of him, I tell you…

Miriam: Hey.

Piet: Hey.

Michael: Hey.

Miriam: My persistence paid off. I have an appointment for a visit in a little while.

Michael: Nice.

Miriam: Or would you rather go? I didn’t mean to ignore you.

Piet: No, not at all. Bea will surely want to talk to her best friend. But give her a squeeze from me, okay?

Michael: From me too.

Miriam: I will talk with her later.

[Bergmann villa]

Stefan: Why is it, this being what it is, even necessary to shut this girl up? Couldn’t you just have shut up? Who else did you tell about it, hmm? Just so that I can calculate roughly how many attempted blackmails I have to expect!

Caro: I needed someone to talk to, you know! Someone who’s listening to me, and not just sliding money across the counter for an abortion!

Stefan: Oh? Suddenly you’ve got morals? How cute! And as we are talking about sliding it: For your gossiping, you’ll pay dearly with the 100.000€ I’ve already transferred to you!

Caro: And how shall I explain that to Ben?

Stefan: You will come up with a lie, I’m not worried about that!

Caro: But you should! Because you’re in on it! And you also carry the responsibility for it, till the end!

Stefan: It will never have an end!

Caro: Yes, it will! If you give Sophie the 50.000!

Stefan: Nuh-uh!

Caro: Then Ben will find out everything!

Stefan: Maybe that would be the best! Then this to-do will finally come to an end!

Caro: Ben will never talk to you again! If he finds out that…. his own father had it off with his girlfriend!

Stefan: Right! I never should have messed around with you! A Mistake! But nobody’s perfect! And in the end, Caro, blood is always thicker than water!

Caro: What does that mean!?! Do I get the 50.000?

Stefan turns around…and shakes his head!

[Vogel house]

Piet: He played Tennis, really well, actally….

Michael: That doesn’t help us. Do you have any idea of what kind of background this guy comes from?

Piet: Yes, normal…so upper middle class? His parents, of course, took it really hard when he ran away to Australia. All the gossip and stuff. The father died a year later of cancer. Shortly thereafter, the mother. Tragic. And he was the only child, and I don’t think they had any relatives here in Cologne.

Michael: That means if the guy ran off to Australia, he didn’t have a chance to say good-bye to his parents.

Piet: Right!

Michael: Maybe he would want to take care of that….

Piet: You mean at the grave?

Michael: Yes! Do you know where the parents are buried?

Piet: Of course! I was at the father’s funeral, along with Bea. Eastern cemetery. You know that?

Michael: Yes. Perfect.

Piet: I’ll come with you.

Michael: Ah, no. First I have to go to Bea’s lawyer, to see if there’s anything new, but I’lI keep you up to date.

Piet: Michael! About yesterday…I’m really sorry! That I beat up on you. It was really a bit too much at the time.

Michael: I can understand that.

Piet: Good luck!

Michael: Thank you!

[Police department, Bea’s prison cell]

A very desperate Bea, hopeless, crying…

[Pestalozzi, hallway]

Luzi: Man, we must not let it get us down!

Hotte: Revolution can be so boring! Oh, Hotte! You should know it better! Revolution can be thrilling!

Timo: They obviously agree!

Luzi: Okay, let’s just write down what we want to eat. My mother surely will make something cool.

Hotte: Oh, duck in orange sauce! Or a roast in the Rhenish style with red cabbage and dumplings.

Luzi: Hotte…

Timo: I think Luzi was thinking about something in the category of “sandwiches”?!

Some students force open the shutter of the school kiosk.

Ben: Oh, snap! Cut the crap! What do you think what you are doing here? I’m no lawyer, but that’s at least larceny and trespass! Hey guys, you’re only helping one person by doing that: Götting! Then he’ll finally have a reason to clear the halls! You’re sabotaging yourselves!

Stefan looks astonished at his son.

At the Bergmann villa Caro tries to call Ben, but just getting the mailbox:

“He! Yo! What’s up? That’s the mailbox of Ben! Talk on it!”

Caro: Ben I have to talk to you urgently!

Shit!

And off she rushes…

And we go back to the aim of her sudden starting…

Ben: Man, if you want to be taken seriously you have to behave accordingly. We all have gone too far to gamble with our goals just for a little fun.

Again Stefan, the astonished and proud father…

Karin: Mr. Bergmann? Friend or foe of the revolution?

Stefan: Neither. Actually I wanted to see Ben.

Karin: He’s very busy.

Stefan: Yes! He is. I’ve never seen him that way.

Karin: That…?

Stefan: Committed.

Karin: Enthusiastic?

Stefan: Decisive!

Karin: There are many facets of your son you don’t know, I think…

Stefan: It looks that way, yes!

Karin: I’m so proud of Luzi! Of course I’m afraid that she’s hurting her chances for her future with this campaign, but she’s fighting for what is important to her, and that deserves respect. Maybe you and Ben are more alike than you think.

Stefan: Yes.

Karin: Well bye then. I’ve got to go!

[On the streets of Cologne]

Michael: I know it doesn’t sound very promising, but we have to do our utmost to find this Mirbach! You must put pressure on the Police.

Lawyer: Ach, my secretary has been on the phone with them at least three times today. But the guys are stubborn. They believe to have the right person in Bea Vogel, and they don’t care about Mirbach.

Michael: That’s why we have to stay one it! We!

Lawyer: I just hope your girlfriend can take it. She’s totally wasted after this false testimony concerning that student.

Michael: Bea is tougher than you think. She can take it. If there is something new give me a call. Okay?

Lawyer: I tried just a while ago without luck.

Michael: realizing that there is a message on his mailbox   Yes. From now on I can be contacted.

Lawyer: Okay then. If there is something new, I‘ll give you a call.

Michael: And after this is all over I’ll buy you a drink.

Lawyer: I’m already thirsty.

Michael listening to his mailbox:

Message 1:

“Hi Michael. It’s me. Bea. My call finally has been approved, and now I can’t reach you. And I won’t be able to to call again later, therefore…I was an idiot. But you already know that. All I said that…that was stupid. Seems I only do stupid things. I was so glad to see you. To talk to you.

Then everything went wrong. It’s probably already too late, but…I love you. Michael…I love you!

.

[On the streets of Cologne]

Sophie desperately waiting for…Caro

Sophie: Hey Caro! Where are you going?

Caro: What do you want?

Sophie: I’d like to know whether I get the money or not?

Caro: No, I don’t think so.

Sophie: Hey! Then I’ll go to Ben!

Caro: Hurry up if you want to be the first.

Sophie: What does that mean?

Caro: Ben’s father wants to tell him everything.

Sophie: Say what?

Caro: I have to talk Ben before Stefan does. Tell him my version of the story.

Sophie: Your version.

Caro: Yes. That his father seduced me and forced me to have an abortion, and that I can’t bear lying to him any longer. Something like that.

Sophie: Sure.

Caro: Ben hates his father. He will believe me.

Sophie: Sure.

Caro: Anyway, you have to find the money somewhere else. I’m in a rush. All the best!

[Police department]

A Knocking at the door.

Miriam: Bea!

Police officer: Hey, hey! He prevents Miriam from embracing Bea

Miriam: Sweetie. I wanted to bring you some chocolate but food is not allowed and I didn’t know that. What the heck! How are you, sweetie?

Bea: It’s not going well at the moment.

Miriam: That soon will change again. Michael and Piet are turning everything upside down to find Jens.

Bea: Michael?

Miriam: He told me that you sent him packing, but he doesn’t give a crap about that, because he knows you. Sweetie, everything will turn out all right.

Inspector: coming in We have found the hotel where Jens Mirbach has been staying.

Bea: You’ve found him?

Inspector: The hotel. We have showen a photo of your ex-boyfriend and the porter has recognized him and told us that he checked out three days ago to go back to Australia. That also means that we will never know if he really would have exonerated you.

[On the graveyard]

Michael: But how will this damned porter know that Mirbach has gone to Australia?

Lawyer: Because he said so! Michael, all the evidence suggests that Mirbach is out

of the country.

Michael: For the past three days?

Lawyer: I’m sorry!

Michael: Yeah, me too.

Lawyer: If there’s any news I’ll call you.

Michael: Alright! And thank you for the information. Talk to you soon.

Michael is looking at the grave of the parents of Mirbach.

Flashback:

Piet: And he was the only child, and I don’t think that they had any relatives here in Cologne.

Michael is looking at the flowers on the grave.

Michael: You are not three days old.

[Pestalozzi]

Still revolution times.

Luzi sitting on the stairs, looking at pics of a study trip to Liverpool

Karin: coming downstairs You think gloomy thoughts?

Luzi: You’re still here?

Karin: I got some sandwich statistics from Timo and Hotte. How many of you there approximately are, and the names of the other parents who are also taking part. Maybe we can make a kind of shift duty for the meals. Who knows how long this will go on.

Luzi: Well, if you want you can also spend the night here.

.

Karin: Oh, no, thank you! What’s going on, my dear? Something’s on your mind…

Luzi: Götting made me an offer today. A scholarship to the Paul McCartney-Academy.

Karin: Liverpool?

Luzi: He seems to have some contacts there.

Karin: But you’ve declined?

Luzi: Yes... Yes.

Karin: You did the right thing!

Luzi: Yes? I mean… Sure, I won’t betray my friends…but…Gosh, Liverpool!

Karin: You will manage that without that! Bye!

Luzi: Bye!

Karin leaves… Caro comes rushing in…and goes upstairs, where Ben ist still…how would Stefan say…decisive:

Ben: Tell them, they can come in the evening. I don’t think that Götting will siege the school around the clock. Nevertheless, better call now. No idea how much time we have. Okay? Cool. See you later!

Caro: Ben!

Ben: Hey. What are you doing here?

Caro: We have to talk!

Ben: Ehm. I’m busy! Sorry!

Caro: But it’s important!!

Ben: Hey, hey… What…?

Caro: Please!

Stefan: Ben!

Caro: Please!

Ben: Ehm. I’ve already heared that you are here. Listen! I have things to do now, and…

Stefan: I’m sorry, but my concern can’t wait.

Caro: Neither can mine! And I was here first.

Ben: What is this!?!?

Stefan: I would like to have told you in a different way, but …the child that Caro has lost, was…it wasn’t yours. It was mine.
