[Pestalozzi Classroom and Hall]

Bea: This thing with us…

Ben: …is something special!

Bea: It’s never worked. That’s why we should at least try to find a proper ending.

Ben: I love you!

Michael: Hey!

Bea and Michael walk off, leaving Ben with tears in his eyes.

Intro

[Pestalozzi]

Ben is sitting in an armchair staring at Bea’s phone number in his contact list. When Jenny approaches he hides his phone quickly.

Jenny: Am I interrupting or were you going to call someone?

Ben: Deleting someone.

Jenny: That works? Cool…It sucks to see her every day, right? I know how it is.

Ben: Really?

Jenny: Yup. Really shitty the things some people pull, isn’t it? Well, I would delete Caro in an instant.

Ben: Caro? I’ve done that already.

Jenny: Ah!?! And who is it this time?

Ben: What about you?

Jenny: I’ve forgotten. Listen, your Dad is really miserable. I’ve never seen him like this before.

Ben: Might be, but I can’t change that. Such a break was long overdue.

(Ben sees Michael in the hallway.)

Ben: Listen, I’ve to get out of here. Bad vibes.

(Michael meets with the school board director.)

Michael: Dr. Wendlandt.

Dr. Wendlandt: Hello.

Michael: Shall we?

(They leave for the office.)

(Now being alone on the couch Jenny pulls out her phone and deletes Emma’s number.)

Jenny: And gone you are.

[Pestalozzi, Michael’s office]

Dr. Wendlandt: You know how much I appreciate you and your work here.

Michael: Yes. That’s why you offered me the position as the principal back then, only to assign it to Mr Götting all of the sudden.

Dr. Wendlandt: Why don’t we just forget about that…. and look into the future?

Michael: Hm. And what do we see there exactly?

Dr. Wendlandt: You as principal of the Pestalozzi Highschool. Or do you seriously want to see what Götting’s next move will be? It doesn’t have to be permanently. Hm? Come on!

Michael: It’s, uhm, nice that you’ve started to trust me again, and that’s why I’m going to do it. But just temporarily...for the next few weeks until you have found a capable successor.

Dr. Wendlandt: You’re doing me a huge favor!

Michael: No, no Dr. Wendlandt, you completely misunderstood. I’m doing this for the students, not for you.

[Pestalozzi, stairway]

Emma is hanging up posters to look for some new members for STAG.

Timo: Hey.

Emma: I told Ms Vogel that we’ll get STAG started again.

Timo: And where do you want to get the people for it?

Emma: Hey! Am I the only one who wants this now?

Timo: No, but we’ve got a dropout rate like an Ebola epidemic. First Sophie, Luzi, then Copperfield Hotte.

Emma: Does it mean you don’t want this at all anymore?

Timo: No, it doesn’t. But only if we find a quick replacement. I really don’t like this uncertainty…

(Jenny comes down the stairs and gives Emma a death stare.)

Jenny: Hi.

Timo: You haven’t fixed things yet?

(Emma shakes her head and changes the subject.)

Emma: What about Luzi? Have you talked to her?

Timo: I think you can forget about her. She isn’t coming back.

Emma: To you or to STAG?

Timo: I don’t know. Both, I guess.

Emma: Well, you can still try.

[Chulos]

Michael: I mean, nothing against your DJ but a live band has always been lacking. Who is it?

Sebastian: Jupiter Jones. And they’re really good, Mr Principal.

Michael: Provisional principal, please.

Sebastian: to a guy Silver, right? He gives him a silver item from the box of stuff people lost in the club.

Michael: All of that is from last night?

Sebastian: Purses, phones, some condoms, chewing gum, hair bands,…ah a wedding ring. Is it yours?

(Michael fake laughs.)

Sebastian: You still haven’t told her, have you?

Michael: I will!...My God, Bea’s just been released from prison. I sure can’t be like ‘Hey, I’m married. I’ve always wanted to tell you!’ It won’t work.

Sebastian: You let yourself get shot for her but you can’t tell her that you’re still married?

Michael: I’m still waiting for the right moment.

Sebastian: You missed that moment long ago!

Sebastian leaves his brother sitting at the bar.

[Bea’s apartment]

Bea: So, what did Dr. Wendlandt say?...

(Bea opens the door thinking it was Michael who rang. But it’s Sophie.)

Bea: Sophie…

Sophie: Hello. I wanted…

Bea: Since when have you been out of the hospital?

Sophie: Since this afternoon.

Bea: And? Are you ok?

Sophie: Yes. I mean, I still have to go there a few times, especially for the pills I’m taking now. But that’s not why I’m here. I wanted to apologize to you. I put you into jail.

Bea: Now come in first.

[Chulos]

Jupitor Jones (the band) is playing. Some girls in the crowd are flirting with Ben but he is just thinking about Bea. Is one of the girls Dora Swan!?!?!

Singer: after the song Thank you very much. Thanks.

Ben: at the bar I’d like to have a Coke.

Sebastian: Is everything ok?

Ben: Yes. …My God!

He spins around thinking it’s one of the girls touching him, but it’s just Jenny.

Jenny: Oh, and here I thought you were already in a bad mood earlier.

Ben: Sorry, there were just some girls…

Jenny: But they were pretty cute.

Ben: Ha, really? I didn’t notice.

Jenny: looking around And here? No one that catches your eye?

Ben: And what about you? Would you like someone here? For some distraction.

Jenny: sighs You know, distraction is for cowards…It’s not like any of this isn’t going to kill us, right?

Ben: Well, that would be sad…..

(The lead singer of the band comes to the bar and draws the attention of the girls.)

Singer: Hi, do you have another beer for us before we leave?

Sebastian: Yes, of course!

Singer: Thanks!

Girl: You were so great!

Singer: Thank you very much!

Girl: Would you give me an autograph?

Singer: Uhm.

Girl: Please

Singer: Yeah, sure.

Sebastian: It was a really great performance.

Singer: Thanks.

Girl:Awesome…..awesome! Wooooahhhh!!!

Jenny: Ha, to be a rockstar…

Ben: And then? Love sickness would still suck.

[Bergmann Villa]

Stefans is sitting on the couch drinking while having flashbacks.

/* Flashback

Stefan: I would’ve preferred to tell you in a different way…But…the baby Caro lost,…it wasn’t yours. It was mine.

Flashback */

(Mrs Beschenko comes in.)

Mrs Beschenko: Mr Götting is here…Stefan doesn’t react I’ll tell him that you’re busy.

Stefan: No, no. Tell him to come in.

Götting: Good evening, Mr Bergmann. You’ve surely heard that my reforms faced some resistance, and that the school board gave in at the first sign of criticism.

(Stefan doesn’t really seem to be interested in what he’s saying.)

Stefan: Do you know Mrs Beschenko?

Götting: Yes, of course. A little bit from school.

Stefan: She is kind of the good soul in this house. We are two now. Except for Jenny.

Uncomforatble, Karin leaves.

Götting: confused Yeah. Like I said, I won’t even try to whitewash the situation (at school). I still think my approaches are completely right, even if such a drastic change at this point…

Stefan: Drop the act, Götting. What do you want?

Götting: The school board has over-reacted because of this stupid strike and…

Stefan: …and now they are after you.

Götting: Mr Bergmann. The situation is serious.

Stefan: It might be for you.

Götting: And maybe for your son, too.

Stefan: Are you trying to threaten me?

Götting: Of course not, but if I’m not the principal anymore…..

Stefan: …the world would still keep going.

Götting: …it might be more difficult for Ben to graduate.

Stefan: My son Ben obviously has his own plans for his future, and obviously I’m not a part of them. Are you done?

[Bea’s apartment]

Sophie: I thought that my father had a child with Franciska. That’s why I went to Australia in the first place. And then…then I met Jens and he told me that it wasn’t like that at all. That my father killed Franciska and that my mother has known about it the whole time.

Bea: It must have been very hard for you.

Sophie: Jens promised not to say anything if I gave him the money. 50.000 € …and then suddenly he wanted to tell you everything. I mean, I couldn’t…

Bea: … lose your mother, as well. I understand that.

Sophie: Still she’s in jail now.

Bea: I’m so sorry.

Sophie: Maybe it’s better that way. Otherwise it would’ve kept going on like this. More money, more secrets and even more feelings of guilt. I just wish I could turn back time….. That I denounced you was so…

Bea: When the police took me the second time, I… I thought ‘That’s the end.’…

Sophie: I’m so sorry!

Bea: It was Jens who brought you into this situation. You just wanted to protect your family. I can understand that.

Sophie: Does it mean you forgive me?

Bea: Yes, Sophie.

(She cries and then Michael appears.)

Michael: Hello, Sophie.

Sophie: Hello, Mr Heisig. Uhm, I should probably leave now.

Bea: Will I see you in STAG?

Sophie: I don’t know…because of Luzi and Timo…

Bea: But you’re still part of us. Hm?

Michael: Bye.

(Sophie leaves.)

Michael: Did you forgive her?

(Bea nods and gets a hug.)

[Pestalozzi, school yard]

Luzi: to some girls Of course I’m glad that there are no A and B-classes anymore, but Physics is still difficult. Did you get the thing with the static friction and why the dynamic friction is more than the rolling friction? Uhm…I have no idea.

(Timo appears and approaches them.)

Timo: Hey! We’re looking for some singers for STAG. Up for it?

Luzi: Funny. to the girls I’ll ask you later again. I’ve got to go.

Timo: Luzi!

Luzi: Leave me alone!

Timo: Hey, I understand that you’re mad at me because I lied to you about Sophie. And I have no idea what problem you have with Ms Vogel, but STAG is your baby, and now we have the chance to sing in a musical! Damn, don’t throw all of that away!

[Pestalozzi, teachers’ room]

Götting: (to a teacher) Of course classes will take place! The strike is over and the students can party tonight.

Michael: (to Bea) Well, apparently he didn’t sleep well.

Bea: I wonder, if he’s already been told that he has to leave.

Michael: Hm, considering how the strike went, he should know himself.

Bea: When is it going to be official?

Michael: When Wendlandt is here….Come on let’s leave.

(As they leave the teachers’ room, Alexandra Lohmann comes in – and she and Bea spend a few moments trading death stares.)

Lohmann: to Götting You look tired. Not as combative as I thought.

Götting: Alexandra. I’ve done some research the whole night. I even called Heisig’s mentor to try and get anything on him, but there’s nothing!

Lohmann: Nothing? Everybody has got a sore spot.

Götting: No. Instead he talked my ears off about how great his state examination was! If something doesn’t happen soon he’ll become the principal. That man is spotless.

(In Germany all teachers must take a State exam before they are allowed to begin teaching)

Lohmann: looking at a magazine But well, did really everything go so smoothly in the life of the good Mr Heisig? She shows Götting an article. Seek properly and you shall find it.

Götting: Who is this?

Lohmann: His sore spot.

[Pestalozzi, school yard]

Timo: Dammit Luzi, I didn’t party around with Sophie! She felt very poorly! She’s been admitted to a psychiatric ward now!

Luzi: You flat-out lied to me! This is what it’s about!

Timo: Yes, and I’ve been apologizing for it a thousand times. I don’t love her! You need to believe me!

Luzi: Oh do I? And why should I? Because everybody here is so damn honest?

Timo: I don’t know who else here has lied to you, but it won’t get better if you hide yourself away now.

Luzi: Yes, it will! Because I won’t get hurt anymore.

Timo: Luzi, I just don’t understand you!

Luzi: Yes, I can see that. Anyway, the STAG thing is not a good idea.

Timo: What you’re saying is total bullsh*t! Come on, you have the chance to be on a big stage! Damn, Luzi, it’s “Sister Act”!

Luzi: Yeah. Bye.

She leaves Timo standing in the schoolyard.

[Bergmann Villa]

Stefan and Jenny are sitting at the breakfast table and Karin is dropping some seltzer tablets into a glass of water, which she then brings to Stefan.

Karin: (to Stefan) Scrambled eggs with bacon, like always?

Jenny: Or rather some herring as a hangover breakfast?

Stefan: No, no. Coffee is enough.

Jenny: (to Karin) By the way, Ben is looking for an external hardrive. A silver one. I’ve been looking for it everywhere but couldn’t find it.

Karin: I’ll bring it to him. No problem.

Jenny: Thank you.

Stefan: I hope he’s not causing you too much trouble.

Karin: No. Everything is fine.

Stefan: You know, it can sometimes be quite difficult to live with Ben.

Karin: We’re fine. He’s ok. …I’ll get you some coffee then.

Stefan: Never mind. I’ll just have the water.

[Pestalozzi, Auditorium]

Emma and Bea are holding an audition for potential new members for STAG.

Bea: (looking at the list of candidates) Well, this looks quite good.

Emma: I never would have thought it! And if one of them can sing…

Bea: It’s going to be alright. (to the candidates) Uhm, Shermane?

Shermane: Yes, here.

Bea: Please uh… get on stage…and well you’ve got the notes already.

Shermane: (the music starts) ……. I’m sorry, can I start over?

Bea: Of course.

Shermane: ..(her own rendition of “Let me entertain you”)

Bea and Emma are horrified…..

Bea: Uhm, thank you….Uhm, yes. Katharina, please?

(The following candidates are as bad as the first and Emma and Bea are starting to get frustrated. WTH to the beat boxer…..lol!)

Bea: Thank you, that was uhm, interesting. Uhm, that was it.

[Pestalozzi, Götting’s office]

Götting: Herr Dr. Wendlandt! Mr Heisig. Excuse me for being late.

Dr. Wendlandt: It’s ok. I uhm, we have something important to discuss with you.

Götting: Well, it fits. I’ve already tried to call you a few times.

Dr. Wendlandt: Yes, I can imagine why.

Götting: I don’t think so. I know this might surprise you now but - considering the recent, let’s say, conflict of interests - I’ve made a decision. I would like to withdraw from the position as principal if that’s possible.

Dr. Wendlandt: Shocked. That means, you want to do it voluntarily?

Götting: It seems that at the moment it would be best if I continue as a simple teacher in order to achieve the best possible education for the students.

Dr. Wendlandt: You’re taking me by surprise now. Yeah but, I mean, if you think so.

Götting: Yes, I do. I’m really not the kind of person who clings to a position…and considering the current situation…

Dr. Wendlandt: Alright then, we’ll do that.

Götting: Thank you very much. I’d be glad if the replacement is done quickly without any problems.

[Pestalozzi, Auditorium]

Bea and Emma are tidying up the Auditorium after the disastrous audition when Timo appears.

Timo: Uhm, he isn’t joining us, right? (meaning Marcel who just left)

Emma: Don’t worry. Not Marcel or anybody else.

Bea: Our choices weren’t especially great….

Emma: They were exactly zero….And Luzi?

Timo: …Complicated.

Emma: sighs sadly So that’s it.

Timo: Hey.

(Sophie comes in.)

Bea: Sophie.

Sophie: Is the audition over already?

Bea: You don’t need to audition.

Sophie looks happy, but TImo does not.

[Pestalozzi, hallway]

Michael: He quit the position completely voluntarily.

Bea: Are we talking about the same man? Julian Götting?

Michael: Yes. Mister “Elite School” himself.

[Pestalozzi, Götting’s office]

Götting is talking on the phone.

Götting: Yes, it’s Julian Götting….oh really, you could tell? That’s right. Everything went according to plan.

[Pestalozzi, hallway]

Bea: There is surely something up his sleeve!

Michael: Well Götting isn’t stupid. It was obvious that he would get into trouble with Wendlandt after the strike.

Bea: Do you mean he wanted to avoid his dismissal?

Michael: Yes, and now he’s gotten out of it “masterfully”. He couldn’t have hoped for more.

Bea: And you will soon be my boss.

Michael: Well at least for the next few weeks, until the real successor is here….And now?

Bea: Now everything is perfect.

They look around and steal a little kiss.

[Pestalozzi, Götting’s office]

Götting: still on the phone I’ve arranged everything necessary. Yes Alexandra comes in…..No, no you won’t need to do anything but sit back and wait…Yes exactly…No, I have to thank you….Goodbye.

Alexandra: Who was that?

Götting: His sore spot.

Alexandra: The dear Mrs Heisig.

Götting: The dear Mrs Heisig.
