Previously on Hand aufs Herz

Zodwa: My dears, we don't want to keep you in suspense any longer.

Tetje: The vote was unanimous.

Intro

[Hamburg, Sister Act, on stage]

Zodwa: The workshop with us...has been more than earned by...the STAG!

Cheering.

Emma: Us? Us?!

Zodwa: Yeah!

Emma: Whoa! AHHHHH!!!!!!!

Everyone is all excited, the dancers can’t believe it….. and Emma runs around the stage jumping and cheering.

[Saal 1]

Julian is STILL dumbfounded.... and finally finds his voice.

Götting: Uh....You are Frau Schmidt-Heisig?

(Yes, she is!)

Helena: If you don't mind.

(We so don’t.)

Götting: Nono nono, I...I w...I didn't know that you...

Helena: Of course you didn't know. Or else you wouldn't have told me all about your interesting plans for me: Me as the pro forma principal with you pulling the strings in the background.

Götting: Well, it wasn't quite like... I... I thought that you were coming to the school mainly for personal reasons, because of your husband. Who is in Hamburg at the moment, by the way, with his girlfriend.

Helena: But nevertheless, I decide for myself what I do and what I don't.

Götting: Of course.

Helena: Herr Götting. What do you think of the following suggestion? We'll just forget everything that happened here today and what you said.

Götting: Heh....On what condition?

Helena: No condition. I'm glad to have met you. And believe me, I'm just as interested as you are in good cooperation. So, I'll see you soon. At school.

Julian is seeing all of his future plans disappear right before his eyes.

[Hamburg, hotel room]

Bea and Michael walk into the same room and he is carrying their bags…. apparently the ‘single room’ idea has been tossed out.

Bea: Gosh, they were great!

Michael: Well, your speech before their performance sounded quite differently.

Bea: Well, what was I supposed to say? You're all at odds with each other and, in fact, wanted to split up but...no hard feelings and let's go!?!

Michael: That wouldn't have been the Bea Vogel I've gotten to know.

Bea: Why?

Michael: Because I’ve gotten to know you as an incorrigible optimist, that's why.

Kissing.

Bea: But only with you by my side.

Michael: Hm.

More kissing. Until Bea pops back up again.

Bea: Tetje!

Michael: What!?!

Bea: We have plans to go to dinner with him.

Michael: Now don't be mad but...I would prefer to celebrate your success alone with you.

Bea: But Tetje is really funny.

You're talking sexy times, she's talking about how she’d rather spend time with a funny guy. Some people might start to wonder, but I know that you're too thick for that, Michael.

Michael: Does that mean that I'm not funny?

Don't worry, I still love your Drag Queen impression.

Bea: You are but...

Michael: But what?

Bea: Come on, we still have to change.

Michael: No we don't.

Bea: Yes, we do!

Michael: No. Ah, we'll just stay here. Come on.

Kissing. (Bah!)

[Hamburg, the important - we might even say legendary (or was that literary?) - hotel room]

Emma and Luzi are sitting across from each other on their beds.

Emma: Us. Tomorrow. In Sister Act. I can't believe it.

They giggle. There's a knock on the door. Luzi goes to open it. It's Timo. With only a groan, Luzi walks back to her bed.

Timo: Hey.

Luzi: Ughhh….

Emma: Hey.

Timo: So? How about it? Feel like roaming around town for a bit?

Emma starts nodding but stops when she notices Luzi's face.

Emma: I think the two of us would rather hang out here.

Timo: Now, come on... Just a short go-round. We even have a free city guide - Bodo!

Emma: I'm sure Lara will be thrilled.

Timo: Luzi, come on. Hm? Alright, then...have a nice evening, you two.

He leaves, and Luzi has that angry look on her face again.

[Hamburg, restaurant]

Bea, Tetje and Michael are sitting in the restaurant. Bea and Tetje are laughing it up and having a good time. Michael is sulking and rolling his eyes because it's not about him, him, him, him…. and as someone who feels entitled to being the center of Bea's universe that seems to irk him a bit.

Zodwa arrives in a red dress.

Tetje: Hey. Great that you could make it.

Zodwa: Sorry I'm late. Hello Michael.

Michael: Zodwa?? Now that's a nice surprise.

Zodwa takes a seat beside Michael.

Bea: Hello.

Zodwa: Hi.

Michael grins stupidly at her. Tetje and Bea go back to their reminiscing.

Tetje: And then this Anton Fisselmann? Who couldn't take his eyes off of you the entire evening?

Bea: Yes, even though he had a girlfriend.

Tetje: But did you ever take a look at her face?

Bea: Tetje.

Tetje: It's true.

Zodwa: to Michael. And what did you do during that time?

Michael: Do you really want to know?

Zodwa: Why don't we say "Du" ( meaning the informal way of saying "you" in German)?

Bea gets a little jealous.

Tetje: Although, you really surprised me too.

Bea: Why?

Tetje: Well, that you even waded into this sludge to begin with.

Bea: Why?

Tetje: Well, you already had that tic back then to wipe down the sink every time after washing your hands.

Bea: I only did that so that cleaning duty would be easier.

Tetje: You've always been a little square, haven't you?

Bea: Excuse me!?!

Tetje: Come on. You studying to become a teacher and me the musician. That's a rather big difference.

Bea: Very annoyed. But that doesn't automatically mean that I was square! You were just a little lazy!

I could describe Bea's reaction to Michael and Zodwa talking but we've got more important scenes to worry about.

[Hamburg, hotel room (yes, that one)]

Emma: Oh boy. Love is so complicated. It's probably weird to be in Hamburg with Timo and Sophie.

Luzi: It's weird that I'm making the same mistake twice. I'm friends with Timo and he lies to me because of Sophie. I'm with Timo and he lies to me again...

Emma: Because of Sophie. But maybe he was afraid and this thing with Sophie didn't mean anything.

Luzi: But if you love each other you shouldn't be afraid.

Emma: But sometimes it's not that easy. There are a hundred reasons to be afraid.

Luzi: We're not talking about stage-fright here. I'm talking about a real relationship.

Emma: Me too.

Luzi: I didn't know you were in love….

Emma: I-I'm not. Responding to Luzi's sceptical look. I'm reading a book about two friends who...hate each other in the beginning and then realize that they like each other very much after all...or maybe even...more than just like.

Luzi: And then what?

Emma: It's so depressing, I don't want to read on.

Luzi: Well, what happened?

Emma: One of them hurt the other very much...because he was afraid to be true to his feelings.

Luzi: Well, let's take Timo and Sophie again as an example. Timo was very hurt back then when Sophie didn't have the courage to stand by him….and I couldn't understand why he would let someone do that to him. So the two friends should really talk to each other.

Emma: And if one of them isn't that good at talking?

Luzi: Well, then maybe she...I mean he...then maybe he should write down what he feels. The important thing is that they're honest with each other. Because otherwise you only hurt each other even more.

Emma looks thoughtful…

[Bergmann villa, living room]

Jenny is munching on some pizza and flashbacking to the Couch Kiss™

Pink's Fucking Perfect starts playing and Jenny starts doing her Pizza Ballet™

[Hamburg, outside at the waterfront]

Timo, Bodo, Lara and Sophie are sitting on blocks of empty pallets eating döner kebabs.

(Side notre from your editor - *SOB* Someone bring me a döner kebab and a German Coke! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The girls on one block, the boys on another.

Timo: Did you see the nun earlier?

Sophie: That wasn't a nun.

Timo: No?

Sophie: Have you ever seen a nun in a leather outfit?

Lara: On the Reeperbahn?

(legendary Hamburg street/ red-light district)

Timo: I didn't see any leather.

Lara: Yeah, right.

Bodo: (to Timo) She's really cool, isn't she? Compared to the girls at my school...

Timo: You're still going to school?

Bodo: Yes, sure. Well, to a science-oriented one. We don't learn anything there except math, chemistry and physics.

Timo: So that's why you're jobbing at a musical. Because you're such a technology freak.

Bodo: No. I wanted to see something different...between lab tubes and endless numbers.

Timo: I get it.

Bodo: Say, does she already have a boyfriend?

Timo points to Laura and Bodo nods.

Timo: Pft…Three.

Bodo: Three!?!

Timo rolls his eyes at him.

Lara: (to Sophie) Ey, that guy is like a rash. You aren't able get rid of him! Look at how he's sucking up to Timo.

Sophie: Well, how else is he supposed to get information about you?

Lara: Ey, please stop. I'll be so glad when we go home and he doesn’t come with us.

Meanwhile, Bodo is buying a red rose from a street vendor.

Sophie: I think he'll still have high hopes until then.

Lara: Man, how much more explicit do I have to get? I'm not even talking to him anymore!

Bodo comes over and offers Lara the rose.

Bodo: This is for you.

Sophie: A lot more explicit.

Lara looks panicked and Sophie laughs…

[Hamburg, the boring hotel room]

Michael: Haha…What an evening!

Bea: Yeah…you seem to have had a great time….

Michael: Definitely, but you obviously didn't.

Bea: It was okay.

Michael: I thought Tetje was so funny.

Bea: Time seems to have changed things a bit.

Michael: Yes. I’m now seeing you in a completely new light after everything I learned about you tonight! I didn't know that you had a cleaning fetish.

Bea: That's not true. Tetje completely exaggerated!

Michael: Oh really. Alright.

Bea: You on the other hand made a very good impression.

Michael: Definitely.

Bea: So you like her?

Michael: Very much. I mean, look, she's attractive...intelligent...has a sense of humor. Well, I would have loved just ripping all of her clothes off. But the thing I liked the most about her was ... the fact that she's an incorrigible optimist.

Bea: Be my guest. Rip my clothes off..

Michael: Ohhh…

(And I'm sure they are doing something in that direction but I've got my eyes covered. I'm just a happier translator that way. ß your editor is too!)

[Hamburg, Sister Act, stage]

Bea is talking to Zodwa, Tetje and another woman….

Bea: The students rehearsed a lot but they're very nervous.

Tetje: But you could really see that they did real good work.

Zodwa: And they had a lot of fun.

Sophie, Luzi and Lara enter the stage dressed in nun costumes.

Sophie: Wow. I think I am starting to get a little stage fright now…..

Luzi: That's incredible! Just incredible!

Bea: Hey! You all look great! That's exactly the right outfit for a date with the press.

Zodwa: May I introduce...Kati. Your dance captain.

Kati: Are you ready?

Sophie: Sure!

Kati: Great!

Timo comes running up. Also dressed in a habit.

Timo: If I had known I would have shaved my legs.

Kati: Okay, people. A little concentration. I said, are you ready!?

STAG: Of course! Sure!

Kati: Well then let's go to the rehearsal room.

Bea: Have fun!

They all wave at Bea before taking off with Kati.

[Hamburg, hotel room]

[Music: Christina Aguilera - Hurt]

Emma is writing on two postcards.

Dear Jenny,

I don't really know where to start. And I don't know if you can even forgive me. I'm sitting here in Hamburg and can't think about anything but you. I've never felt as much for anyone as I do for you. The kiss with you was the most wonderful thing that has ever happened to me, but then I managed to hurt you nevertheless… because I was too much of a coward to be true to my feelings in front of Timo. I feel ashamed because of that, and still, l don't know if I’m going to have the courage to do it next time. I wish you could help me...to become a little braver.

Your Emma

[Bergmann villa]

Still to the same song, Jenny - in a pink bathrobe - is thinking about Emma and

[Flashback]ing

to the rolling up the banner/Lady and the Tramp kiss

[/Flashback]

She makes a call.

Ben: Over the phone. Ben Bergmann….

Jenny: Hi Ben, it’s Jenny.

Ben: Hey Jenny.

Jenny: I just wanted to see what you're doing.

Ben: I'm trying to make myself useful at the Beschenkos'.

Jenny: That's new.

Ben: Haha, very funny….. And how about you?

Jenny: I'm uselessly sitting around here and am wondering with whom I could go out partying tonight.

Ben: Well, I can think of someone.

Jenny: And?

Ben: At nine o'clock at the Chulos?

Jenny: Chulos will work. Dancing is just what I need right now.

Ben: Me too.

Jenny: Okay, see you later.

[Pestalozzi, teachers' lounge]

Alexandra: So? How was your party yesterday?

Götting: Uh...so-so.

Alexandra: But you were so euphoric. You said our plan was bullet-proof.

Götting: What is bullet-proof anyway...

[Flashback]

Götting: My apartment is close by.

Helena: Your apartment?

Götting: Well, don't you think we should move our getting to know each other to a cozier place?

Helena: Oh...

Götting: Does that suggestion surprise you?

Helena: It does. Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself. Heisig is my name. Helena Schmidt-Heisig.

[/Flashback]

Götting: Is that the magazine with the picture of Heisig's wife?

Alexandra: Mhm. Why?

Götting: Let's see...Memorize this picture carefully. It might be that she looks a little differently nowadays.

Alexandra: Yeah, and? The important thing is that she's coming here.

He leaves the room.

[Hamburg, Sister Act]

People are entering the theater and waiting for the show to start.

Emma is standing backstage, already in costume, watching the stage.

[Chulos]

Jenny and Ben are dancing.

Jenny: You want to go somewhere else?

He smirks, nods and they leave.

[Hamburg, Sister Act, backstage]

Emma is still watching the stage, where now the musical is already underway, and trying to get her nerves under control. Bea comes up to her and grabs/rubs her shoulders in comfort.

Bodo comes up to Lara and starts to reach for her face-microphone. She slaps his hand away.

Lara: No!

Bodo: Can you move that down a little yourself then?

Stage guy: OK. It's your turn.

Bea: Okay, people. Break a leg!

They make their huddle and get ready to walk on stage.

Michael: to Bea Nervous?

Bea: Ugh..Of course!

[Bergmann villa]

Ben and Jenny stumble up the stairs.

Ben: Actually, I never wanted to set foot in here again.

Jenny puts her hands over his eyes.

Jenny: This better?

Ben: Much better.

And they start making out against the wall and the stairs (ouch). Then Jenny leads Ben up the stairs.

The rest of the episode switches several times between……

[Hamburg, Sister Act, backstage]

STAG perform onstage.

[Bergmann villa, Ben's room]

Ben and Jenny are getting it on.
