Previously on Hand aufs Herz

Lohmann: (on the phone) Julian?

Götting: Alexandra? Is that you?

Jens: (in the background) Help me! I'm being kidnapped (snort)!

Götting: What's going on? Who was that? Alexandra!

Lohmann: The radio. (I love her.)

Jens: (the peskiest kidnapped guy ever) That's not true! She's got a gun! You don't really believe, that you are going to find peace in killing me?

Lohmann: No, I'll find my peace once I've talked to Bea. Adieu, Jens.

intro

[Garage]

Jens is tied up inside a vehicle parked in a closed garage ... and the car engine is running.

Jens: Alexandra! Where are you going? Help! (She's just stepped out a minute to get fresh bread, dear.)

[On a road in Cologne]

Luzi is walking along the street, and Ben pulls up in a white Porsche. (If this is a Miami Vice allusion, I am unawares).

Luzi: Ben?

Ben: So, what do you say? Am I going to get my Mustang back with this, or am I getting my Mustang back?

Luzi: Where'd you get the friggin' car?

Ben: Borrowed it briefly. Get in, I'll give you a ride home.

Luzi: Don't say... Have you gone crazy? The car's stolen!

Ben: Borrowed 'til I have my car back. I'll put it back right from where I got it, later, and I'll pay for the the damage.

Luzi: I can't believe it, just yesterday you were blowing your lid about that Ronnie pig and now... (You two are having this weirdly homoerotic thing about old cars and racing, that's oddly reminiscent of the Fast and the Furious..)

Ben: I'm only getting back what's mine. So, are you coming?

Luzi: You know, Timo is right when he's flipping out about me getting myself in danger for guy like you. God, if I only think about it...

Ben: Dude, Luzi!

Luzi: Dude, leave me alone!

Ben: Damn it, don't make such a fuss. (He's a romantic one, that guy.) F*** Y**.

[Pestalozzi, singing auditorium]

In a happier place, the Stag is singing "Sympathy for the Devil"

[In a secluded area]

Ronnie: Are you being missed?

Sophie: No, not me, just my voice.

Ronnie: I think it's pretty cool, that your voice is with me.

Sophie: Do you think Ben is going to come?

Ronnie: He wants his baby back... and what's more, I've offered him something he'll never be able to say no to. (His words, not mine.)

[Pestalozzi, singing auditorium]

Bea: People, I've got goosebumps!

Emma: Shit! Well, if practice is that good, there's a hundred percent chance for us to botch the radio show!

Jenny: I didn't know you were that superstitious!

Luzi: You have no idea.

Bea: That's nonsense, you're just getting better and better! Are you even aware of all the things you've already achieved? Who would have thought just a few months back, that we's perform at Sister Act and get a whole concert hall cheering? And that's only the beginning, come on.

Reads from the newspaper...

It says, our performance was surprisingly professional for a school AG, and our performance certainly was up to par with a musical production. That's a really good review!

Bodo: (to Lara) I think it's really great that you're back with the Music AG.

Lara: I'm only coming along because I was part of the group in Hamburg.

Bodo: Oh. Ok.

Jenny: Hey. I know we had a deal. We'll get Lara back into the AG, we only need a few more reasons for her. It would still be nice of you if you could keep shush about Emma and me.

Bodo: I would have done that anyway.

[Secluded area]

Ben drives up in the Porsche... Sophie and Ronnie are waiting by Ben's Mustang.

Sophie: Woah. And why would Ben want to trade that ride for his old Mustang?

Ronnie: Cause the Mustang isn't stolen.

Sophie: The car's stolen? You can't roll like that!

Ronnie: So, what do you say to our little rental?

Ben: It's going to do its part... and we'll return it after. I'm ready to start.

Ronnie: B 506 down 10 k to the gas station and back... The first to arrive at our box stop girl here, is the owner of the Mustang.

Ben: That route is busy at this time of day, it's way too dangerous.

Ronnie: Are you a man or a mongrel?

Sophie: Ben's right. Can't you just drive off road, or wait 'til it's dark?

Ronnie: The oncoming traffic is what's putting the kick into this... or did Daddy forbid it?

[Outside the garage]

Götting drives up and jumps out of his vehicle while talking on his cell phone...

Götting: Alexandra! You can't do this! No revenge in the world is going to bring your sister back. Alexandra! Alexandra! If you won't call me back in the next fifteen minutes, I'm going to have to involve the police!

Götting sees fumes coming from behind a nearby storage unit/garage door.

Alexandra! Alexandra, are you in there? Alexandra! Alexandra, damn it, what are you doing?

[Pestalozzi, parking area]

The STAG is milling about by a white van (bus) that will take them to the radio interview/contest.

Bea: If we want to be on time for the interview, we have to leave now, we can't wait for Sophie.

Timo: I don't get this.

Luzi: She doesn't want to.

Timo: What was your allusion earlier about her having something better... she's back to hanging with that Ronnie guy?

Luzi: No idea. Really.

Bea: Two minutes.

[Garage]

Götting breaks in and sees that Jens is tied up inside the car.

Götting: Mr. Mirbach!

He dashes to the driver door and turns the engine off. Then, luckily, he finds a tool on a shelf with which to cut Jens free.

[Pestalozzi, parking area]

Luzi walks up on Emma who is reading a text from Jenny that says: "Miss you already."

Luzi: (To Emma) Well, someone have a secret? Don't worry, the name Jenny isn't plastered to your forehead. No worries.

Bodo: So? Excited?

Lara: (Stops texting and looks irritated) Not really.

Bea: Sorry, Timo, but we can't wait any longer. Guys, get in, we'll be late otherwise.

[Garage]

Götting drags Jens out of the car and toward the door. He semi-slaps Jen's face to wake him up.

Götting. Damn it! Breathe!

 Jens coughs and awakens.

Oh, thank God...

Jens: Alexandra...

Götting: She's gone.

Jens: Alexandra wants Bea... (See, I told you!)

Götting: What?

Jens: Alexandra wants Bea to...

Götting: Alexandra wants Bea to die?

Jens nods yes...

[Pestalozzi, parking area]

Lohmann: Bea, you have a moment?

Bea: Whatever it is, it needs to wait.

Lohmann: It won't but take a moment, I need to talk to you - alone. (Her words, not mine...)

Meanwhile, another pair are onlooking ...

Jäger: What's Frau Lohmann doing?

Krawczyk: Posing trouble, most likely, as she is prone to do whenever Bea is successful.

Bea: I'm sorry, we're running late as it is.

Alexandra: Then I'm coming with.

[Secluded area]

Ronnie: Last chance to put your tail between your legs.

Ben: One shouldn't talk of things one lacks.

Ronnie: The gas pedal is the one on the right. Think of that when you see your Mustang in front to of you.

Sophie: You wanna chat or drive?

3... 2... 1... Go! (learning German with Sophie)

[Pestalozzi, outside]

Götting comes roaring up in his car, nearly to the front door... jumps out and...

Götting: Alexandra! Is she here?

Krawczyk: You're usually the one who knows best where Frau Lohmann is.

Götting: Have you seen Alexandra, yes or no?

Krawczyk: Herr Götting, what's wrong? You're completely beside yourself!

Götting: Alexandra is about to make a huge mistake, and I really need to find her.

Krawczyk: She's on her way to Bergisch-Gladbach.

Götting: What?

Krawczyk: With the S T AG, she got on the bus. We've been wondering, too. Her interest in the STAG usually is rather mild.

Götting: Frau Vogel's on the bus, too?

Krawczyk: Of course Bea is. She's giving an interview at a local radio station with her students.

Götting: When did they leave?

Krawczyk: About fifteen minutes ago? But would you now finally tell us... what it... is?

But he's gone already ... in his Alfa Romeo...

[On the roads of Cologne]

Ben looks in his rearview and sees Ronnie gaining on him...

Ben: F***

Ronnie manages to pull ahead and nearly cuts Ben off. The race goes on...

[On the bus]

The STAG is singing "Sympathy for the Devil". Bea makes her way to the back and sits next to Alexandra.

Bea: Ok, Alexandra, what is it you want to talk to me about?

Alexandra: Not now, we'll talk later in private.

[Götting's vehicle]

Götting, while driving (tsk tsk), makes a call on his cell.

Götting: Alexandra, pick up. Damn it, pick up!

[On the roads of Cologne]

Ben and Ronnie continue to race. Ben takes the lead again...

Ben: Yes!

Ronnie: I'll get you, you wuss.

Ronnie pushes harder and tries to pass, but Ben won't let him. The two of them are using both lanes now...

[On the bus]

Bea: What do you want to talk about, privately?

Alexandra: About us, our history, but as I said, this isn't the right place to discuss it adequately. (Her words not mine!)

Alexandra gets a call and we see the pistol in her purse. (Ed// Is it the fake one?) The call is from Götting and she declines to answer.

[On the road]

More Ben and Ronnie racing with intense looks from both drivers...

[On the bus]

Luzi and Emma are singing Talking About a Revolution (... and I'm getting sad and anxious just listening to it.)

Emma gets a text from Jenny that says: "Can't wait to hear your voice on the radio." (Ed// And Emma gives that award-winning smile.)

Lara somehow lets her iPod slip from her fingers. She and Bodo, who of course sat next to her, both reach down for it simultaneously - and bonk heads.

Bodo: Excuse me, what are you listening to?

Lara: Shuffle?

Bodo: I thought, cause... Did you know that you know the most about a person when you know their playlist?

Lara: Uhumm...

Bodo: And.. what's your favorite style of music? (Ed// Bodo! Ask this first, THEN give up why! *face-palms for him*).

Lara: Across the spectrum.

Bodo looks a bit dejected ...

Bea: Well I thought that Jens and Monika Kleinhaus got released from jail, you'd probably want to avenge yourself. Is everything alright? You look so pale all of a sudden.

Alexandra: Thanks. It's fine.

[Götting's vehicle]

Götting: Alexandra, damn it, pick up already!

[On the bus]

Alexandra declines another call from Götting, but listens to the message being left. Bea heads back to the front of the bus.

Alexandra's mailbox: This is Alexandra Lohmann's mailbox, messages after the beep.

[Götting's vehicle]

Götting: Alexandra, I found Mirbach. He's alive and in the hospital. You didn't kill him, and you're not going to kill Bea Vogel, either. I know I've left you alone with this, but I'm not ever going to leave you alone again, I promise. Alexandra, I love you! (Back in a minute, I'm going to get that glue to put my heart back to together.)

[On the road]

Ronni and Ben continue to race at high speed, while using both lanes.

[On the bus]

Bea: Something's wrong.

Michael: What's did she say?

Bea: That she wants to talk to me. Later. Alone.

Michael: And that can't wait until tomorrow?

Bea: She was totally strange somehow. Hopefully she won't faint on us.

Michael: I can pull over, if you want me to.

Bea: No, let's keep driving.

Timo: Hey, what's Lohmann doing here?

Emma: She's probably planning to sabotage our performance.

Luzi: Quatsch!

Bodo: Who wants to sabotage what?

Timo: Well, Lohmann hates the AG.

Emma: ... hates Frau Vogel.

Bodo: I think she looks pretty peaceful.

Luzi: That's what's so spooky!

Timo: When unearthing the volleyball field, we found the dead body of Frau Lohmann's sister.

Bodo: You're kidding.

Timo: Nuh uh.

Luzi: Shut up, Timo.

[Switching between the bus and Götting's vehicle]

Bea: (looking at her phone, then at Michael) Götting. (She answers) Herr Götting?

Götting: Frau Vogel, thank God. Are you alright?

Bea: Yes.

Götting, Frau Vogel, is... is Alexandra with you?

Bea: Yes, she is. Why? Herr Götting, you need to speak louder, the reception is really bad!

Götting: Frau Vogel, you need to stop immediately! Alexandra has a weapon, she's tried to kill Mr. Mirbach and next...

Bea: What?

Götting: Damn it! Shitty reception!

Bea: Alexandra tried to kill Jens.

Michael: What? (THE word of the ep)

[On the road]

The racers continue to hog the road, but then Ben sees a white bus coming toward them.

Ben: (To Ronnie - as if Ronnie can hear him) Pull over!

Michael sees the two cars coming straight toward the bus.

Michael: Are they insane?

Bea: Brake!

Michael locks them up and the Mustang barely zips between the oncoming bus and the Porsche. The bus comes to a halt sideways across the lanes and the racers continue on a bit,

Ben then screeches to a halt, and so does Ronnie. They both jump out of their respective vehicles.

Ben: F***, Sh**, Sh**, Sh**!

Ronnie: Why'd you stop? Did something happen?

Ben: Did something happen, you asshole? Are you an idiot?

[On the bus]

Michael: Everything alright?

Bea: Yes, are you alright?

Michael: I pulled my neck, otherwise... Hey!

Bea: Is anybody hurt?

Luzi: I think everybody is alright,

Timo: Are you trying to kill us?

Michael: Someone headed towards us in our lane.

Bea: Lara, are you well?

Lara: Yes, everything's alright.

Bodo: Where did the guy go?

Michael: The asses just took off.

[On the road]

Ben: We need to go back.

Ronnie: Wait up, everything's alright. The driver did a full stop - nothing happened.

Ben: How do you know that?

Ronnie: They are definitely going to call the cops. I am out of here.

Ben: You can't leave them hanging like that.

Ronnie: Say, dude, you really don't get it, do you? We raced each other on a freeway. You're driving a stolen car!

Ben: Yes, and that was dumb enough! We can be glad that you didn't run into the bus head on!

Ronnie: Get a grip. You had your fun. I didn't force you into anything. (Ahem.)

Ben: Why didn't you slow down?

Ronnie: And let you win? Look, when the cops come, I've got no business with the car. Those are your fingerprints all over it. So think hard about what you're doing.

Ronnie jumps back in the Mustang and burns rubber while leaving the scene...

Ben: F***! (Lover's quarrels...)

[On the bus]

Bea: I'm going to call the police.

Michael: Wait, I need to get the car out of the opposite lane. And you, sit down and buckle up!

[On the road]

Ben decides to leave the scene as well.

[Switching between the bus and Götting's vehicle]

On the bus, everyone buckles up. Götting decides to call Bea. He places his cell phone between his head and shoulder.

Bea: Götting again... (she answers) Herr Götting.

Götting: Frau Vogel, yes...

The cell drops to the passenger floor.

Bea: Herr Götting?

Götting reaches hard for the cell phone. His eyes leave the road...

Götting: Shit.

Michael: Can't you talk later?

Bea: Hello? Hello?

Michael: It's running again, we're a go.

Bea: Herr Götting?

Bea looks into the outer rearview mirror (objects are closer than they appear, Bea) and realizes ... Michael looks, and then Alexandra looks ... and Götting finally looks up... and gasps ...

WHAM!

Götting's vehicle plows into the rear of the bus, shreds the entire back end away, then flips and rolls... Debris flies everywhere ... slowmo...
