Episode 182

English

Michael:What are you doing?

Ben: Tidying up.

Michael:After all the mistakes you’ve made, it is nothing more than bothersome paperwork for me to get you suspended.

Ben: Well, then just do it. And then I’m not Bea’s student anymore, and she doesn’t have to cling to this dishonest relationship with you any longer, just to keep me at arm’s length.

Helena: Damaging school property is a serious offense. I can’t tolerate people rampaging in my school. As I wasn’t present to judge the situation myself, I would like to hear your opinion in this matter.

Michael:Well, I… I advocate a school suspension

(Intro)

[Pestalozzi, principal’s office]

Ben: You can’t do that.

Michael: You have no idea what I can do. It hasn’t been the first time that you have misappropriated other people’s property just to vent your private frustrations.

Ben: If I get thrown out of school, you will get the short end of the stick.

Michael: Oh please, Herr Bergmann, for me it’s not about some primitive power struggle, it’s about a long overdue decision.

Helena: Very well. Ben, do you have something to add in your defense?

Ben: What for? Let’s just make it quick.

Helena: Even if you obviously can hardly seem to wait, it’s naturally not possible for everything to go so quickly. You can go for now. You will hear from me when I have made my decision. What are you waiting for?

Michael: Ach Helena, do you think this is consistent? First you threaten him, then you let me decide and now you let him go?

Helena: No worries. You can be assured that I know exactly what I am doing.

[Auditorium]

Bea: I thought we would try something new… So that our new members get the chance to really prove themselves.

Caro: (unenthusiastic) Super. Thank you so much.

Bea: You're welcome.

Bodo: Frau Vogel? Yesterday I saw some dance moves on TV. Maybe we could use them.

Bea: Cool idea. Show me.

Jenny: Hey, why are you looking so serious?

Emma: What if Ronnie makes good on his threat and get’s back at you?

Jenny: Well then he’ll get his knuckles rapped.

Emma: That’s not funny. The guy is completely crazy.

Jenny: Eh, the guy has mainly a big mouth.

Emma: Can you remember him beating up Ben? And he was also the one who started those car races and you know how that ended.

Jenny: Okay. In the future, I will be cautious and keep out of his way. Satisfied?

Emma: I would prefer a bodyguard.

Jenny: (light laugh) You are cute

Bea: Good. We’ll try it sometime. But now we’ll sing a little. I’ll play the lead voice and you guys just join in when you are ready.

Bodo: Where is Luzi, anyway?

Caro: She is trying to save her destroyed career, right now.

Bea: Luzi has an appointment. She’ll come by later. On three, yes…one…

Frau Jäger: Frau Vogel, you are to come to the principal right now. It’s urgent.

Bea: Yes, okay. I’m coming. You start without me, I’ll be right back.

Caro: Yeah. That seems to be it for today.

Bodo: No. We’ll practice without Frau Vogel.

Caro: Yes, and what would be the point in that?

Jenny: If you don’t like it, you can leave.

[RaumZeit Records]

Miriam: Yes, there is my workplace.

Lara: So, everybody who wants to see Frank Peters goes to you first?

Miriam: Yes, exactly. My daughter, Lara.

Lara: And what exactly do you have to do here?

Miriam: Well, everything that’s cropping up. I make appointments, set up contracts…

Lara: Isn’t that totally complicated?

Miriam: Could be worse

Lara: Wow. Really, Mama. Not long ago, you were washing glasses and now…

Music: Tim Benzko is in the recording studio singing “Nur noch kurz die Welt retten”

Lara: Isn’t that the Benzko? That’s his new song, isn’t it?

Miriam: Yes, “Nur noch kurz die Welt retten“. Do you know it?

Lara: Mama, why didn’t you tell me that he is coming and going, here. I love Tim Benzko!

Miriam: Should I get you an autograph?

Lara: No, that would be totally embarrassing.

Miriam: Nonsense. They are very nice.

Lara: Oh man, that’s so cool.

Miriam: So, should I?

Lara: No!

[Pestalozzi]

Bea: Whoa.

Ben: Someone is in a hurry.

Bea: I have an appointment … with the principal.

Ben: She’ll probably want to plan my suspension with you.

Bea: What suspension?

Ben: Ask your boyfriend. He caught me.

Bea: Caught you doing what?

Ben: I upended a few tables in a classroom.

Bea: And why?

Ben: You know exactly why.

Bea: Ben, I’ve felt better myself. But I don’t go on a rampage here.

Ben: Yes well, maybe you should.

Bea: Why are you causing trouble? All the time? It almost looks as if you want to get thrown out of school.

Ben: Maybe there is some truth in that. Maybe I’m just fed up to see you every day with the wrong man at your side…who you don’t even love.

Bea: I’m not going to have this talk over and over again. We are through with it.

[Auditorium]

The STAG performs “I’m a survivor”

Luzi:Wow! What an awesome song.

Emmato Jenny: You were great.

Jennyto Emma: YOU were great.

Bodo:We all were great.

Caro:Ugh. Ey, do you have to celebrate yourselves like some kind of support group? I mean, the song was OK.

Luzi:But you had a lot of fun yourself.

Caro:As I said, the song was OK. I mean, that wasn’t [in a pretended happy tone]GREAT. I mean, Andrew Wag is great, or The Black Pony is great but… the STAG is…OK.

Luzi:Ohhhh, she loves us!

Caro:Ach bullshit!

[Principal’s office]

Michael:How else was I supposed to judge that situation? I enter this classroom and there he is standing in a vandalized room.

Bea: Did you ask him why he did it? Or did you threaten him immediately with expulsion?

Michael:For starters, I helped him to clean up the chaos.

Michael:And now please excuse me, I have a class. You’ll excuse me?

He leaves.

Helena: When I entered, Ben Bergmann realised immediately what was at stake. That this time, he did enough to be expelled.

Bea: He had to expect that, yes.

Helena: On the other hand, I don’t know the student good enough to make such a far-reaching decision. That’s why I’ve sent for you.

Bea: You want me to make that decision?

Helena: You are the guidance counsellor.

Bea: That is not the real reason.

Helena: What other reason would I have?

Bea: Helena, I won’t play that little game.

Helena: I wouldn’t exactly call the decision about the future of a student a little game.

Bea: Then why are you getting me into this situation? If I say Ben should stay, I’m biased. If I say he should go, I will seem biased, as well.

Helena: Life’s full of difficult decisions.

Bea: That I, thank god, don’t have to make. You’ll have to do it… as the principal. Do what you think is necessary.

[RaumZeit Records]

Miriam: Here, listen to this. It’s a new musician who RaumZeit Records contracted just last week. He was working for an international label before but they didn’t really built him up right and…

Lara: And who is that woman?

Miriam: Dora Swan. An alias. Her real name isn’t Dora but …

Sonja: Miriam! Please set up a studio appointment for us. Tim wants to record his other songs next week already. That man is a real workaholic.

Miriam: Sure. I’m going to look it up right now.

Sonja: And you are the new intern, yes?

Lara: No, I don’t work here.

Sonja: You don’t?

Lara: I’m visiting my mother.

Sonja: Oh, you are Piet’s daughter. Pleased to meet you.

Lara: Yes, I’m Lara. Where …

Sonja: Piet and I are dancing together.

Lara: Oh, that’s you

Sonja: I’ve heard a lot about you.

Lara: And I about you.

Sonja: Oh really. Has your father talked about me?

Lara: Well, just that the two of you go dancing. But your song on Tim Benzko’s last album was really magnificent. I love that song!

[Pestalozzi, auditorium]

The STAG performs “Survivor” in front of Bea

Bodo: And, how did you like it?

Bea: Good. You were good. We’ll continue tomorrow.

Luzi: That bad?!?

Bea: No, you were good. I’m sorry, my mind is elsewhere today. We’ll continue tomorrow and I will be fully here.

Emma:What’s wrong with her?

Caro: Why? It’s completely normal. Well, normal by your standards.

Emma:What’s that supposed to mean? Are we not normal?

Caro: No.

Emma:Do have a problem with me and Jenny being together?

Caro: What?!? What nonsense.

Emma:So, what was that “You aren’t normal” crack all about?

Caro: I meant your troup. Every one of you has a screw loose, if you ask me. If anything, you and Jenny are the most normal ones.

Caro: Don’t look so dumbfounded, now. I work in the music business. Your outing was almost as hot as the one by Madonna and Britney.

[RaumZeit Records]

Lara: I’ve tried the piano in the past. And way before that the recorder. But both turned out to be a complete catastrophy.

Sonja: On the other hand, your father always raves about your beautiful voice.

Lara: Well, he is my father.

Sonja: So? If I, for example, had listened to my grumpy music teacher, I wouldn’t sit here today and write songs.

Lara: I could never do that. Not one song would come to my mind.

Sonja: They don’t come to my mind, either. I just try out…melodies, chords… Sometimes I write the text first and then the music.

Miriam: Excuse me? I don’t want to disturb you but we wanted to have lunch together, didn’t we? There’s a nice Italian place just around the corner.

Lara: May I stay here for a while longer?

Miriam: I think, Sonja will be glad to be able to work in peace for a while.

Sonja: That’s quite alright. Lara doesn’t bother me. On the contrary.

Lara: May I?

Miriam: Yes, of course. Then I’ll just bring back take-out for us. Be right back.

[Pestalozzi, principal’s office]

Michael: I’m sorry, I’ve got delayed.

Helena: Good, then I can start now. I haven’t made my decision lightly. And after careful consideration and close verification of the circumstances, I have come to the conclusion that I would like to give you another chance.

Michael: Excuse me?

Helena: That you may be partially at fault for the bus accident might have resulted in an emotional crisis for you. I believe we should take that into account. Of course, this is no carte blanche but a very seriously meant reprimand. You can go now.

[Pestalozzi, class room]

Emma:I’m getting ill just seeing the guy from afar.

Jenny: Oh Emma, c’mon. The topic is much too lame to talk about it all the time.

Emma:You shouldn’t have stolen his drugs.

Jenny: Oh yeah? Should I have just watched him selling them to some 7thgrader?

Emma:No, but…

Jenny: It’s crystal-clear what the guy is doing and I’m fed up with it.

Emma:Okay.

Jenny: Sorry but guys like that make me so sick.

Emma:Do you know anymore of that kind?

Jenny: Not anymore. Fortunately. But, you know, let’s just forget about him. Let’s rather argue about which movie we are going to watch tonight. Action or romance?

Emma:How about action on the dancefloor and…

Ronnie comes in, eyes on his cell phone, and runs into Jenny

Jenny: Hey! Can’t you be more careful?!?

Ronnie: Sorry. Wasn’t intentional.

Jenny: Okaaay. Somebody seems to have learned his lesson. You just don’t have to let yourself get intimidated.

[Pestalozzi, principal’s office]

Helena: I had to make a decision and I made it. I’m asking you to accept that.

Michael: If you weren’t sleeping with his father, you would have never let him get away with it unpunished.

Helena: You’re acting as if I stabbed you in the back.

Michael: You did stab me in the back. I recommended that he be expelled, in case you forgot.

Helena: Oh that. You weren’t really serious. You were mad at him.

Michael: Excuse me, I was what?

Helena: I understand that. He did humiliate you, after all. Your girlfriend is still stuck on him.

Michael: Bea and I are happy and even Ben Bergmann can’t change that.

Helena: Yes, I know. She forgave you our night together, at once. But everyone with eyes can see how difficult it is for Bea to forget about Ben. You should be grateful to me that I kept the only barrier in place that is still separating them.

[Pestalozzi, in the halls]

Jenny: At the moment it’s not a problem because we have no important games. But in the long run, we are going to need a new volleyball coach.

Emma: Why don’t you ask Caro?

Jenny: Yes, funny. Will we see each other later?

Emma: I’m going to finish early and call you then.

Jenny: And then, action at Chulos?

Emma: Or maybe romance at your home, after all?

Jenny: Okay.

They kiss.

Emma: Have fun at practice.

Ronnie watches them

[On the streets]

Emma is walking along the street. A masked guy grabs her and pushes her against a wall.

Emmascared: Hey. What are you doing?

Two more masked guys close in on them

[In front of the Pestalozzi]

Bea checks her mailboxon her cell

Michaelon mailbox: Bea, it’s me. I’m already home. I hope we are still on for tonight. Please call me.

Ben:Hey! You don’t have to call me, I’m already here.

Bea:I wasn’t about to call you.

Ben:I wanted to apologize to you. For earlier. OK, you are mad, I can understand that. That was the last time you had to stick up for me. Thanks.

Bea:So you didn’t get suspended?

Ben shakes his head.

Bea:That wasn’t due to me.

Ben:It wasn’t?

Bea:No. I deliberately kept out of it.

Ben:You would have allowed me to be thrown out?

Bea:Ben, you are a grown-up. Finally start acting like it.

Ben:Ähm, will we see each other tomorrow? At court?

Bea:It doesn’t work like this.

[On the streets]

Two goons pin Emma to the wall, one takes her bag and hands it to the third. A fourth is on look-out duty.

Emmain panic: You can have the stuff. There are 40 Euros inside.

They laugh

Emma:Please.

The third goon goes searching through her bag and then upends it until he finds her mobile phone.

Goon:Okay, let’s start. Let’s work you over real good.

Emma screamsand gets a hand held over her mouth. Third goon starts filming with Emma’s mobile phone.

Goon:What is your problem with us men, anyway? What is your problem with having a little fun? It can be really great with us boys, too.
