[Bergmann villa]

Stefan: You should try everything in life at least once. And I promise you…it tastes fantastic.

Caro: Oh well…I don’t know…

Stefan: Come on…(he is waving a fork with a bit of lobster on it in front of her face. Caro takes the fork into her mouth in a way that is OBVIOUSLY meant to be flirty) Another piece?

Caro: I want something else.

Caro startskissing him.

Intro

[Bergmann villa]

Caro pulls away.

Caro: No, this is wrong. I can’t.

Stefan: Yes.

Caro walks out leaving a dumbfounded Stefan behind. On the stairs she encounters Ben who has just gotten home.

Ben: Hey! Where…where are you going?

Caro: Away.

Ben: Caro? What’s wrong? (Caro is on the verge of tears and Ben looks up the stairs, suddenly wondering what has been going on whilst he was away) Was there a problem with the old man?

Caro: I don’t have a problem with your father. I have a problem with you.

Ben: Is this about me taking part in the choir? Caro, I’ve told you many times that I’m not into this kind of drama.

Caro: You say so much, and I’m supposed to jump. But you know something? I’m not a puppet that you can do what you want, and when you want.

Ben: Wait a minute. That…

Caro: You know something? Just leave me alone for now. Okay?

She storms down the stairs leaving a very confused Ben behind…

[Beschenko home]

Karin: You’re welcome to stay if you’d like.

Michael: Well, if I stayed now, I would stay the whole night and I haven’t packed for Berlin yet.

Karin: What is it you still need?

Michael: Only a tux, actually.

Karin: A tux.

Michael: Yes. Tomorrow will be a very special evening, and… so we should get dressed up.

Karin: I can hardly wait.

Michael: Me too. I’ll come get you tomorrow at noon and then… then you won’t get rid of me for the rest of the year.

They kiss. Luzi comes in.

Luzi: Oh! Hi…Herr Heisig.

Michael: Luzi. Hey. I was just about to leave.

Luzi: Because of me? I’m not really here.

She walks to her room.

Michael: No no. Your mother and I still have big plans anyway so… Good night. See you tomorrow.

Karin: I’m looking forward to it.

He leaves.Luzi comes rushing out of her room.

Luzi: Tell me! What’s tomorrow?

Karin: Michael invited me to go to Berlin for New Year’s Eve. I thought you were going to the party anyway and…that you could manage just fine without me for a few days.

Luzi: Of course you’re going. I mean, Berlin? How cool is that?! I’ll manage here. You can count on me.

Karin: I know that.

Luzi: You’ll have to watch the fireworks at the Brandenburg Gate!

Karin: Yes, and before that we’re having a fancy dinner. At a star restaurant!

Luzi: Nice.

Karin: Yes, I can hardly believe it.

Luzi: At any rate, this is THE reason to get you spiffed up again for once.

Karin: Right. I could do that.

Luzi: You have to, this is THE opportunity!

Karin: Well…. then I’d better take a look at my wardrobe.

Luzi: And if you need someone, style counsel-wise…just ask.

Karin: I’ve been spiffing myself up since long before you were born.

Luzi: That’s why I offered.

Karin has to laugh.

[Bergmann villa]

Ben comes storming into the house….finding his father setting the table for dinner.

Ben: What happened here?

Stefan: What does it look like? I cooked.

Ben: And Caro? I met her outside. She made a scene and ran off.

Stefan: She probably had her reasons.

Ben: Then why do I get the feeling that those reasons have something to do with you?

Stefan: I don't know, but I'm sure you'll tell me.

Ben: Stop manipulating Caro!

Stefan: And you should stop blaming other people all the time. If you aren't paying attention to your girlfriend, then you shouldn't be surprised if she runs away from you.

He sits down with his lobster dinnerand takes a bite.

Stefan(nonchalantly): Lobster?

Ben battles with a little bit of aggression but refrains from beatinghis father over the head with said lobster. He takes off and we see him in his room wrestling with the idea of calling Caro….

[Chulos]

Caro is there. But most importantly so is Emma. And Hotte who is watching Caro.

Emma: Hi! What's up?

Hotte: Lots. Caro broke up with Ben.

Emma: Did she tell you that?

Hotte: My gut is telling me that. Every break-up runs through four stages. And Caro is either at the end of the first or the beginning of the second. I still have to figure that out.

Caro’s phone ringsand she takes it out of her bag.

Hotte: Don't answer it. Don't answer it. Don't answer it. Don't answer it. Yes! Stage 2. I downloaded a new app that displays Caro's state of mind exactly...and calculates when she will fall in love again, and with whom. Meaning what kind of person.

Emma: Yes. And you got the full body scanner with that for free, did you?

Hotte: This is based on studies by Freud, Jung and co. It isn’t nonsense. And Caro can really use my help what with the bad stage she's in at the moment... And then she'll automatically fall in love with me.

Emma: So, does that thing have GPS? So one can see where you’ve landed after she kicks you in the ass?

(Smartass-Emma FTW!)

[Bermann villa]

Ben is on the phone.

Caro’s voicemail: Hi, this is Caro. I'm busy right now. Leave a message after the beep.

Ben: Caro, please listen to me. I don't know what happened earlier and what the problem is but... I want to understand it. We should talk in peace. Let's just meet tomorrow for brunch at Saal 1, alright? Well, in any case, I will be there. It would be great if you came.

[Chulos]

Hotte walks over to Caro.

Hotte: Hey. I know how you're feeling. (He puts his arm around her shoulders.)You're going through a difficult stage of grieving. But you have to learn to let go.

Caro: First and foremost you have to learn to let me go.

Hotte: Are you in the angry stage?

Caro: Yes, especially when guys like you are chatting me up! (She storms off)

Hotte: Hey! But this will pass.

Emma: Wow! Things really clicked between you. The things high tech is capable of...

Hotte: It was my mistake. I was in the wrong place on the time scale

Emma: Yes, that must have been it.

Hotte: You'll see. Tomorrow, Caro is going to be hot (literal: sharp) for me like a laser sword.

Emma: Yes. You only have to firmly believe that.

[Vogel home]

Miriam is in the process of cleaning all of the Vogel dishes when Bea comes in.

Bea: Spring cleaning. In winter, at this time of day?

Miriam: I felt like it.

Bea: What wrong?

Miriam: Nothing.

Bea: Sebastian. (Now don't sigh like that. Contrary to all your love interests - let me clarify: your male love interests - Sebastian doesn't make me want to bring out the baseball bat). I thought that since you saw him with that chick things were over.

Miriam: They are. God, he came to the restaurant yesterday to apologize to me. What was he thinking?

Bea: Does it matter?

Miriam: No. Yes. I...it was so embarrassing. We had a huge fight in front of all those people.

Bea: Is he nuts? (Says the woman who had a screaming match with her co-worker in the middle of the school, with students present.)

[Chulos]

Michael: What did you expect?

Sebastian: That she would at least talk to me.

Michael: In the restaurant. While working. Fucked-up plan. Sorry to have to tell you that.

Sebastian: I'm such an idiot. No matter what I do, if it's about this woman I do it wrong.

Michael: Because she's the wrong one. (He's one to talk.)

Sebastian: No. Because she's the right one. From now on, the problems will simply be eliminated.

Michael: Okay...Problem Number One: Miriam's husband. Will be eliminated. Just like that. How will that work? Will you do it yourself, or are you going to hire someone?

Sebastian: I only meant it metaphorically.

Michael: Mhm.

Sebastian: Besides, her marriage is already broken.

Michael: That's something Miriam has to decide for herself, doesn't she?

Sebastian: Okay. You don't like my plan. Do you have a better suggestion?

Michael: Yes. I do. Simply elope. Tear down all the bridges behind you and love each other at the end of the world.

Sebastian: You know, I’ve already been thinking about something like that.

Michael: Then just do it.

Sebastian: Just?! I can't just chuck everything from one day to the next! (No? When you’ll abandon us to the renewed Miriam/Piet boredom sometime in the future you are going to do just that.)

Michael: Aha! So then you know now how Miriam is feeling. She has a family, and she can't just abandon them. And you should respect that before continuing to pressure her like this and getting her into trouble! You get me?

[Vogel home]

Bea: Put the whole thing behind you. I know it's difficult but... you can do it.

Piet: I'm home! Hey. Oh. What's going on here? Want me to help you?

Miriam: Hm...since we've been married you have never ever asked me if you could help me.

Piet: I was just joking. (Ha…ha…ha…)Bea is here after all. I'm going to take a shower. Since you don't need me.

And he’s gone.

Miriam: Oh yeah.

Bea: You do need him, and he you.

Timegoes by. Miriam is trying to write a letter.

Lara comes into get a glass of water.

Lara: You're still up? What are you writing?

Miriam: Nothing. Shopping list.

Lara: Then add water to it, too.

Miriam: Yes.

Lara: Night.

Miriam: Night sweetie.

Miriam: Dear Sebastian...

[Chulos]

Bartender: I'm going home.

Sebastian: Bye.

Sebastian starts writing a letter too.

Sebastian: Dear Miriam...

He crumples up the paperand starts again.

Sebastian: Dear Miriam, I behaved like a complete idiot today. I'm sorry and I’ve realized a few things.

[Vogel home]

Miriam is crying.

Miriam: Dear Sebastian, you're a wonderful person. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. I don’t and didn’t ever want to hurt you...but my family needs me, and I need them, more than anything...

[Chulos]

Sebastian: I realized that you aren't just a wonderful woman but also a mother.

[Vogel home]

Miriam: Maybe you can understand me a little bit.

[Chulos]

Sebastian: And that's why I'm going to leave you alone from now on. Sebastian

[Beschenko home]

Karin is looking through her dresses.

Karin: That might work. No.

Luzi(on the phone): Yes, the heating is working again. We can stay there the whole day. Will you tell the others? Great. Then I'll see you later. Bye. (to Karin)I'm meeting the AG in a bit. You won't be mad if I don't tell you good bye later, will you? I would love to change places with you. Well, if Herr Heisig wasn't coming. You can keep him. Is something wrong?

Karin: No. I'm feeling somewhat queasy.

Luzi: That's the excitement.

Karin: I think I'm getting sick.

She grabs the phone.

Luzi: What are you doing?

Karin: I'm going to cancel on Michael.

Luzi: You won't. You're nervous that's all.

Karin: I have nothing to wear. Michael made reservations at a star restaurant. How can I go in there? People are going to think that I...

Luzi: Mama. It’s always this way. Whenever you look in your wardrobe...you never have anything to wear.

Karin: Look for yourself. They’re either too old, don't fit or are damaged…!

Luzi: What about this one?

Karin: Well, that might still fit. But look at those colors.

Luzi: It’s incredible that something like this was permitted once.

Karin: You see? Give me the phone.

Luzi: You'll get your dress. Promise.

Karin: And how?

Luzi: With lots of black and lots of love. Ever heard of textile color? This piece is going to be a really great evening gown.

Karin: But Michael will be here in two hours and you really should go to the rehearsal. It's important for the band festival.

Luzi: Doesn't matter. You're my mother and you have to go to Berlin. I'll take care of it. And hands off the phone.

[Chulos]

Miriam: Hello.

Staff guy: Äh...

Miriam: Ähm, I have a message for Sebastian Heisig. Could you please give this to him?

She puts the letter down on the bar.

Staff guy: Yes.

Miriam: Thanks.

[Saal 1]

There’s Emma (out of focus but who cares?) sitting at a table with two other girls. (Who are they??? This question is the most exciting thing about this whole scene, I’m sorry to say.)

In less important news, Sebastian hands his letter to a waitress.

Sebastian: You just have to hand the letter to Miriam. Thanks.

Ben is sitting at the barwaiting. Sebastian leaves and Caro comes in.

Ben: Hey.

Caro: So, what's up?

Ben: I just want to understand what that was yesterday. You almost run right by me, jump down my throat and... then you're gone again.

Caro: Because I was mad. I always get the feeling that I have to wait for you while you (...) with Vogel...

Ben: I thought we had settled this.

Caro: But it’s not that easy. It's not my fault that I'm this jealous.

Ben: There's no reason to be.

Caro: There is. Everything is more important to you than me at the moment. Even those fuckwits in the AG. And add to that your Christmas trauma, or whatever that is. Do I even mean anything to you?

Ben: Of course.

Caro: It doesn't feel like it.

Ben: And how can I change that? By overcoming my trauma and surprising you with a belated Christmas present?

Caro: Actions would help more than words in any case.

He leans over and kisses her.

Ben: Better?

(Yes! Wonderful! Spectacular! More of this, please! To make sure the average Ben/Bea fan realizes that Emma was at Saal 1 and saw the reconciliation, the focus changes to Emma. The average Jemma fan doesn’t need this clue-by-four but sure as hell won’t say no to some Emma goodness.)

Caro: Some.

[Beschenko home]

Luzi is dyingand altering the dress.

Luzi: So?

Karin: I don’t know what to say.

Luzi: How about, Berlin, here I come!

Karin: Incredible. It looks great.

Luzi: Well, it's no junk of the rack, but instead Haute Couture.

Karin: And you think it will fit me?

Luzi: Try it. You'll see, I have got the hottest mom on the planet.

[Pestalozzi, hallway in front of the auditorium]

Bea: Hey. What are you doing here?

Michael: Funny. I just wanted to ask you the same thing.(It's hilarious really)

Bea: Luzi called for a spontaneous rehearsal. I don't know what she did to make the janitor turn on the heating again.

Michael: Those little buggers won't even give you a break during the holidays.

Bea: And you?

Michael: I won't give you one either.

Bea: What are you doing here?

Michael: I came to get my jacket. I need it for my New Year's Eve trip to...Berlin.

Bea: Berlin. Nice.

Michael: Yes, I'm going with Karin.

Bea: You two have fun!

Michael: Thanks. What are you doing New Year's Eve?

Bea: No idea. I don't have any plans yet.

Michael: Is there no one you want to celebrate with?

Bea: I'll just see what comes up. Well, Happy New Year.

Michael: Thanks, you too.

[Auditorium]

Bea walks in to find the gang minus Luzi sitting around waiting.

Bea: I'm really impressed by your commitment. What did you bribe the janitor with to make him turn on the heating?

Timo: If Luzi were here we could ask her.

Sophie: Yes. First making a giant fuss and then not even showing up herself. I could have slept in some more.

Bea: And what’s up with her?

Timo: She just called. Some...some kind of clothes emergency.

Bea: Well, if it's important. Nevertheless, we should make use of the time. The qualifying round for the Band Festival is already next week.

Emma notices Hotte using his phone.

Emma: You can put that away. Caro and Ben are together again... If they had ever even been separated at all. I saw them at Saal 1, and they were very involved with each other, if you know what I mean.

Hotte: Really? But the app says that Caro is in the middle of the cutting the cord stage.

Emma: I'm sorry. NO cutting the cord, more like attaching the cord...with tongue.

Bea: Alright, then we'll start with Blame it on the Boogie. There are still a few gaps, especially in the choreography. Are you ready?

The STAG sing Blame it on the Boogie

[Beschenko home]

Luzi: Wow. You look like...

Karin: Like someone who is spending New Year's Eve in Berlin?

Luzi: Ey, those Berliners should really be afraid if you're going around town like that!

Karin: I still can't believe what you made out of this thing. I had no idea that you had such talent.

Luzi: But don't spread it around, or else the talent scouts will beat a path to my door...and that would be the end of my Abi.

Karin: Thanks, sweetheart, for everything.

Luzi: You're beautiful. Herr Heisig is really lucky.

Karin: Alright, but you really need to go to rehearsal now.

Luzi: I know. We'll see each other next year...most beautiful of all mothers.

Karin: We'll talk on the phone, most beautiful of all daughters.

They hug.

Luzi: And I want a card from Berlin. Promise?

Karin: Promise. Happy New Year.

[Outside, at a bus stop]

Sebastian is waiting behind an advertising column.Miriam approaches from the other side.

Miriam: Excuse me, has the number 3 bus already departed?

Random extra: No idea.

Miriam: Thanks.

He sees her, steps back, looks again, she sees him, they look at each other…and then they’re kissing….in broad daylight….in public!
