(Previously on Hand aufs Herz)

[Bergmann villa]

Ben: We. Caro and I are going to Australia. We are going to build life for ourselves there. The surf shop.

[Saal 1]

Miriam: It really would be better for you to go to the police.

Bea: And what would I tell them? That I got a call from Jens, and that I then went to meet with him because he knows I’m innocent…but unfortunately he didn’t show up…

[Bergmann villa, Ben’s room]

Sophie: What’s the destination?

Caro: Sophie! Where did you come from?

Sophie: I need your help, Caro.

Caro: Of course.

Sophie: I need 50 thousand Euros.

[Intro]

[Bergmann villa, Ben’s room]

Caro: What? What do you need 50 thousand Euros for?

Sophie: I can’t tell you! Just give me the money and I’ll tell you later, okay?

Caro sits down on the bed.

Caro: That’s not happening!

Sophie: But I need the money! Immediately!

Caro: What happened in Australia!?!

Sophie: Nothing!

Caro: I thought you wanted to find out if your father had a child with Franziska Lohmann. But that wasn’t possible, because Lohmann is dead, and now you suddenly show up and need these big bucks!?! What happened down under!?!

Sophie: You already know too much! Just give me the money and I’ll disappear again!

Caro: It’s impossible!

Sophie: Nice place here! She crosses her arms. And Ben still believes that it’s his child, and stays with you because of that? That’s what you wrote to me, right?

Caro: Stop it!

Sophie: And Ben’s father is a real windfall, as long as Ben doesn’t know the truth!

Caro angrily pops up from the bed.

Caro: I’m warning you!

Sophie: Of what? I’m no longer afraid of you, Caro! Those days are over!

Caro: I’m not giving you any money! And now I want to you disappear immediately!

Sophie: If you don’t give me the money, then Ben will find out that it’s not his, but his father’s child! It’s your choice!

[Beschenko’s apartment, Luzi’s room]

Luzi and Timo walk in, obviously very annoyed since Luzi rips off her jacked and throws it down.

Luzi: Gosh, this is not happening!

Timo: Götting is serious!

Luzi: Today Emma can’t attend our classes, and tomorrow we’re not allowed to talk to her, or what!?!

Timo: Especially Emma! She always has scored well on exams! Just because she was rattled during one achievement test and did badly she’s given up? And we get remedial education!

Luzi: What do we get?

Timo: Yes! We shall be nurtured, in addition to afternoon school and homework!

Luzi: I thought we’re already that smart? What about those who scored badly?  Shouldn’t they be the ones who get nurtured? And anyway, all that A and B stuff! What does that mean! A as “All checker” and B as … “Brick looser”?

Timo: Haha! “Brick looser”?

Luzi: Yes, I don’t have another idea for B!

Timo: Come over here my “All checker”! Luzi walks over. Since in future there won’t be as much time for us since we’ll have to exercise our super brains, we should…”

He pulls her down on top of him...

Luzi: …make use of the hours left!

Timo: Oh, you’re that clever!

Luzi: Oh, yes!

They kiss....

[Bergmann villa, Ben’s room]

Caro: How dare you to blackmail me!

Sophie: I have enough things on you! The older Bergmann will chuck you out of your dream mansion and Ben will dump you if he finds out that it isn’t his child!

Caro: I don’t have the money!

Sophie: Ha! Don’t give me that! She sits down. In your last letter you boasted that Bergmann gave you 100 thousand Euros just to shut up! Not even you can spend that much money in that short of a time!

Caro: Ben and I, we need the money! For a surf-shop in Australia!

Sophie: Phh! So you want to play family, in Australia?!

Caro: There is no baby anymore! I’ve lost it!

Sophie: Shaking her head, she stands up. You had an abortion! You’re so clever..... And Ben for sure has a mega-bad conscience and will stay with you because he feels sorry for you! Right?  Surely it was bull-shit, the abortion!

Caro: It wasn’t nice!

Sophie: Sorry that I have to involve you in this, but if you don’t want to loose Ben, you have to give me the money!

Caro: What’s happened to you?

Sophie: You have until tomorrow!

She moves to the door…

Caro: And what shall I tell Ben? Why do I suddenly need that much money!?!

Sophie: No clue! You have always been good at lying! Just make something up!

Sophie leaves, and Caro shakes her head....staring at the door Sophie has just exited from.

[Bea’s appartment]

Bea is sitting on the couch and Michael is pacing around while he’s talking, obviously very annoyed....so annoyed that he doesn’t really notice that she’s not really listening to him, but staring at her cell phone.

Michael: I don’t even want to know what the students are going through right now! Divided into smart and stupid! That’s what it comes down to! The problem is that I don’t even have any recourse against Götting. He passes his elite-stuff off as some pedagogical concept that “fulfils the individual needs of the students!” It makes me wanna puke! Puke! He finally notices that Bea is staring at her cell phone. I know you have other problems at the moment, but it cannot yet have made you to be that completely cold!?!

Bea: It hasn’t made me cold! On the contrary! I also hope that Götting will not be able to get away with this forever!   In the meantime, you should just try to give the student the feeling that they are not alone! And that they cannot be pigeonholed!

Michael: But then I would be lying to them! Bea looks at her phone again. Are you waiting for something? A call or something?

Bea: No!

Michael: You sure?

Bea: What about a coffee?

Michael: At this time?

Bea: You can also have something else!

Michael: Bea, are you waiting for Jens to call you? After you stood him up he surely won’t give you a call!

Bea: I…I didn’t stand him up!

Michael: You met him after all!?!

Bea: He didn’t come!

Michael: Well that’s good! I know you hope that he can exonerate you, but if he has proof he should go to the police! Do you understand me!?! To the police, and not to you!

[Beschenko’s apartment, Luzi’s room]

Luzi and Timo are making out on her bed, and he goes to take her shirt from her belt...

Luzi: Stop! Wait a minute....She sits up. This is awesome!

Timo: I think so too!

Luzi: I’ve imagined it so many times! You can’t believe how often I imagined this! You…me…candle light…music…

Timo: If you want some candles, then…?

Luzi: It isn’t just about the candles! But.. do you know the feeling when you want something so much, but something inside tells you it’s not possible? So, you…me….I

Timo: Ummm....is it your first time?

Luzi: She nods. And I want it to be perfect! Do you understand? And right now my mother is sitting next door, watching TV. W..W...What if she hears us? H...H...How embarrassing is that! O..Or if I do something wrong! If, if…

Timo: Hey, we have all the time in the world! If you’re not absolutely sure then we don’t have to do anything! Okay?

Luzi: Okay!

Timo: And besides, I’m as scared as you are!

Luzi: You?

Timo: Sure!

Luzi: Well, you and Sophie, you guys have already…

Timo: Yes, but it’s not just about sex! It’s about you and me! And I don’t want anything to go wrong!

They smile at each other and Luzi looks relieved.

[Bergmann villa, Ben’s room]

Ben is sleeping, but Caro is up worrying.

            Flashback

Sophie: If you don’t give me the money, Ben will find out that it’s not his, but his father’s child!

Ben: Is everything okay?

Caro: Did I wake you up?

Ben: Actually I can’t sleep anyway! What’s up?

Caro: I still have a pain, and it’s at its worst during the night!

Ben: Then let’s go to the doctor tomorrow! I’m only flying away with you if you’re really healthy!

Caro: Thank you!

Ben: Now come here! He pulls Caro over to lay on his chest. Try to sleep!

[On the street]

Sophie is walking down the street looking for someone, obviously distraught when she can’t find them.... suddenly we see a man walking up behind her.

Jens: Do you have the money!?!

Sophie: Not yet!

Jens: Then hurry up! I‘m not going to wait forever!

Sophie: Hey! It’s not that easy to scratch up 50 thousand Euros!

Jens: It’s not that easy for me to watch Bea being blamed for a murder she didn’t commit!

Sophie: I’ll come up with your money, okay?

Jens: I hope so! Only one call and the police will know who murdered Franziska! You’ve got 24 hours!

Sophie: Agreed! No one can see you, or you won’t get one cent!

Jens: You’re threatening me!?! He smiles at her and Sophie looks scared. Tomorrow! Same time!

Sophie: Sh*t!

[Beschenko’s apartment, Kitchen]

Luzi is eating at the table, while Karin is having her food by the sink.

Karin: How many minutes has it been since he hasn’t called?

Luzi: 26!

Karin: Come now, you saw each other yesterday, and Timo was here for a very long time....

Luzi: He didn’t sleep here, and we also didn’t sleep together…

Karin: Do you think I’m worried about that?

Luzi: Well…

Karin: Luzi! You’ve been in love with him for ages! Now you’re finally together! Enjoy it! I’ll be out of here this evening! A colleague of mine has birthday! It could get late!

Karin starts putting on a watch.

Luzi: Okay! And where are you going really?

Karin: To the cinema! Late-night showing!

Luzi: Oh mum, that’s so embarrassing!

Karin: I have no clue what you’re talking about! I’ve wanted to watch this film for ages!

the door bell is ringing

Luzi: That’s him! Timo!

Karin: Bye!

Luzi: Bye!

[Bea’s apartment / Jens somewhere on the street]

Jens calling Bea

Bea: Jens?

Jens: Bea!

Bea: Where were you? I waited for hours!

Jens: Something came up, but I have to see you! Now!

Bea: Jens, I don’t understand it! Why can’t we just go to the police if you know who murdered Franziska? Why don’t you make a statement?

Jens: I will explain that all to you when we meet! Promise! Same meeting place as yesterday! I’m on the way!

Bea: Jens!

Bea thinking about calling Michael, but then trying to call Miriam

Miriam: Hello! This is the mailbox of Miriam Vogel!

Bea: Miriam! It’s me! Please call me immediately when you hear this! It’s urgent!

[Bergmann villa, Ben’s room]

Ben is at the breakfast bar on the computer when Caro walks in.

Ben: Hey! Do you feel better?

Caro: So-so...

Ben
: Then this will cheer you up!

Caro: Byron Bay?

Ben: That’s THE surfer city in Australia, and I’ve found a shop that is up for sale! There is enough tourism, fanatic surfers – business is booming! Furthermore, they have a huge shopping mall, they are playing beach-volleyball every day – you’re not going to be bored!

Caro: Sounds great!

Ben: The cash from my father will be poured into it completely, but with this start up capital, we soon will earn enough so that I can pay him back the money and we’ll be independent! I have to call immediately because otherwise the shop will be gone!

He starts to dial on his phone when Caro rushes to take it from him.

Caro: Ben? I’ve got to tell you something! I’ve just talked to Dr. Roth on the phone.

Ben: Your gynecologist? Concerning the pains…

Caro: He says it’s not a good idea to be travelling at the moment! I have to lay down a lot and can’t endure any stress!

Ben looks disappointed, but worried...

Ben: But it’s nothing bad?

Caro: No! It’ll just take some time for everything to be healed, and a 20 hour-flight definitely is off the cards! I would have liked to fly right now, but we have to wait!

Flashback to a kiss with Bea

Ben: I know! I will have a baby with Caro and you’re together with Michael.

Bea: We’ll ruin everything! We mustn’t do that!

Ben: Closing the laptop. Of course! The most important thing is that you’re well!

[On the street]

Bea is walking up and down the street looking around when she sees Jens when she walks up to him and he gives her a hug…..which she doesn’t really return.

Jens: It’s really you!

Bea: You haven’t changed a bit!

Jens: You liar!

Bea: I thought I wouldn’t recognize you, but…

Jens: I’m quite worn out! It was a long journey! And everything else…but never mind! You’re looking great!

Bea: Thank you!

Jens: It was the greatest mistake in my life, to leave you for Franziska! I have tried to forget you! To forget all this! But I wasn’t able to! You know what I did when I heard that you became a teacher? I sat on my porch and opened the most expensive bottle of wine I had. I drank a toast to you! I was so proud of you! That’s the Bea I know! She goes off and makes her dreams come true!

Bea: It wasn’t that glorious! I’ve never dreamed of being arrested! I want to know who murdered Franziska. You said you know! Now!?!

(I swear! Only Bea could have met a guy that is as CLUELESS about things as she is!!)

[Saal 1]

Sebastian and Miriam are at the bar..... isn’t she working!?!?!?

Sebastian: Leaving home without having breakfast is very unhealthy!

He leans in to kiss her.

Miriam: Ah! That’s what you mean by ‘without breakfast!’

Sebastian: What else?!

Michael: Do you know where Bea is?

Sebastian: A ‘good morning’ to you also!

Michael: We had a date but she’s not at home!

Miriam: Yes, she just called me and now I can’t get her on the phone.

They all look worried.

[On the street]

Jens: I’m sorry for being secretive about everything, and because I stood you up yesterday...but I have to be careful!

Bea: Why? Is Franziska’s murderer in town? Does he know that you know the truth? Were you hiding from him in Australia? And why did you write those cards?

Jens: It’s not that simple!

Bea: Jens! I’m under suspicion of murder! I’m not allowed to teach! I might have to go to prison for 20 years! I want that all to be over!

Jens: Yes, I want that too! That’s why I am here! You’re right, I know who murdered Franziska!

Sophie: You stupid pig! You promised! We’ve had an agreement!

Bea: Sophie! What are you doing here? How do you know each other?

[Saal 1]

Miriam: She wanted to go and meet Jens! I accompanied her so that nothing would happen, but Jens didn’t show up!

Michael: Then she’s meeting him now, but alone! Do you know what that means?

[On the street]

Bea: Sophie! What are you doing here? I thought that you were in London?

Sophie: Forget our agreement!

Jens: Be careful what you say! I will not allow Bea to go to prison innocent!

Sophie: Mrs. Vogel, I’m sorry!  Then running to call the police

Help! You’ve got to come here immediately! There’s a murderer, and that’s the accomplice! I can testify!!

Jens: I’m sorry! And he runs away!

Bea: Jens! Jens!

[Pestalozzi, hallway]

Luzi sends Timo a text on his phone. After he reads it he stands up, looks around…and takes off his shirt…much to the delight of the girls beside him....and turns it around since it was inside out.

Timo: When I read “Take off your shirt” I totally thought of something else!

Luzi: I don’t know what you mean!?! He smirks at her. Say, is that your homework? Shouldn’t you do that at home?

Timo: Yes! But unfortunately I can’t concentrate at home!

Luzi: A student of the A-class shouldn’t be distracted from his goals by anything or anyone!

Timo: Yes, and unfortunately that’s why I have to break up with you!

Luzi: Bad timing! She leads him away from prying ears. I…have the run of the house this evening!

Timo: Mmh!  Maybe I can postpone the breaking up until tomorrow?

Luzi: Well, I thought…I think…we should do it!

Timo: Are you sure? I mean we also can wait!

Luzi: I‘ve waited long enough! Timo is trying to kiss Luzi, but she steps aside Yeah...Somebody has to do his homework! See you this evening.

She walks off, leaving Timo to watch her walk away.... with a smirk on his face the whole time.

[Police department]

Bea: I’m willingly telling you again and again: I had nothing to do with the murder of Franziska Lohmann, and I also haven’t had any contact with Jens Mirbach!

Inspector: Ah! Then my colleagues had hallucinations, and the man running away from them wasn’t Jens Mirbach?

Bea: I saw him today! The first time after all these years! He called me and told me that he knows who murderered Franziska! He was just going to tell me when your colleagues came!

Inspector: Oh! That’s an annoying coincidence!

Bea: Just tell me what Sophie has to do with this affair!

[Now going back and forth between interview rooms/times with the Inspector interviewing both Sophie and Bea]

Sophie: Of course I have something to do with this affair! Did I find Jens Mirbach in Australia, or not?

Inspector: Why did you search for him at all?

Sophie: My mother was a part of this whole affair back then, and she told me from time to time about it! Well, and some time ago I had found a postcard from Jens Mirbach at school, and it was addressed to my teacher Mrs Vogel, and when I gave it back to her she completely flipped out! Well, and then I became a little suspicious of her!

Inspector: Ah and then you hit the road to another continent and search for a suspected murderer?

Sophie: Yes! Would you like to be told more about the murderer, or what? Well, anyhow, I found Mr. Mirbach and he told me then that Bea Vogel buried Franziska Lohmann beneath the volleyball field 11 years ago! He saw this with his own eyes!

Bea: Jens couldn’t have seen it! Because nothing like that happened!

Inspector: Mrs. Vogel! Yourself stated that Franziska Lohmann fell into the pit during the quarrel with you!

Bea: Yes! And she climbed out of it after that! Alive!

Sophie: Yes! She said that, but it isn’t true at all! At that moment Franziska Lohmann was already long dead!

Bea: No!

Sophie: And Bea Vogel put pressure on Jens Mirbach and blamed it on him because he has cheated on her with Mrs Lohmann!

Bea: Ah… shaking her head

Sophie: Well, and because he had a bad conscience he took all the blame for her, and then he went to Australia and sent all the postcards to Germany! Well, now he couldn’t keep all of this to himself anymore and has now come back!

Bea: That’s not true!

Inspector: Mrs. Vogel! Give me one reason why your student, Sophie Klein, would make up such a story?

Bea: I have no clue! Maybe I can speak to her now?

Inspector: Mrs. Vogel! You are under arrest under a charge of suspicion of murder!   Until further notice you will remain in custody!
